The Descendent

Chapter 1

By Zufra NaveedPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

He could barely breath in the fumes and smoke that filled the air. The screams pounded at the back of his head. ‘Hey Lu; are you okay?’ He couldn’t care less for the dying world, It was his sister that mattered. Alistair had his “sigh of relief moment” when he saw Luna wobbling towards him, ‘I'm fine.’ She rolled her mustard eyes. The sensation of surviving what they though they never would was too overwhelming for Luna.

‘We're alive Lu, which-’ he was choking on his words. ‘We need to get out of here.’

‘We can't leave without her. It's pointless.’

‘We'll find a way.’ He grabbed her and vanished into thin air.

It was the usual Friday; 10:00 am Royal Council meeting except the unusual agenda. Mr. Guntley strolled into the conference room. His wrinkly face had a smirk that he was perfectly hiding. He was known to be “adaptable”. He comforted himself in his chairman sofa knowing quiet well; that was his last time.

‘With huge regret and pain in our hearts,’ The spokesperson of the council; Ethan turned on his mic, ‘we’re gathered here to mourn our deceased kings and queens. But we can’t let our land, the wealth and all the lives here suffer because of the calamity. We hereby announce the royal council as the ruler of the realm; effective from today, with Mr. Guntley to be the ultimate ruler.’

‘This can’t be; it’s been centuries that wizards have ruled the realm.’ The old lady with pink hair screamed in the public hall; where they were all listening to the announcement.

‘Council are just a bunch of nightwalkers with some muscle; they’re no rulers.’ The man in her back seconded her.

But what could they all do? They were the most lethal creatures. It was accept or die then.

‘They’ll get us all cursed. Damned. We’re all damned.’ The pink haired lady got up and left the all.

Her words gifted a dreadful quiver to Ethan and Guntley. They knew she was a teller. The tellers were known to have visions of the future. She’s just blabbering in her anger. Mr. Guntley thought to himself. He was too lost in his new era of power. He wasn’t ready to let an old lady’s mutter ruin his time.

The new ruler indulged himself in the gold throne as Ethan stood by him; his right hand. There began their glory days except they didn't know the loopholes they had left.

5 years later

Mr. Guntley or should I say King Guntley? He woke up to another day of misery. The pile of disputes among his own men, the misery of drought on the land he once strived to rule, and the hatred of all the creatures that once co-existed peacefully. It all awaited him outside his room’s door. Weather it was the prophecy of the pink haired lady or the lack of royal magic in the land that led to all this, it was now the reality.

A sudden knock on his door dragged him out of his thoughts. Nathan didn’t wait for the King to allow him in. ‘I have some news. You might want to hold yourself for this.’ Guntley wouldn’t let his hopes go sky high. Nathan was Ethan’s brother, who joined the council in his brother’s footsteps. But he was one of the best councilors the Mayfalls Realm had in years; strong, cunning, and loyal.

‘There is a sorcerer across the woods. We’ve heard he is the most powerful to ever exist.’ Nathan’s words were hard to understand due to his irregular breathing. He has been running for a mile then, ‘We can convince him to cast some witchy chanting for our land. He lives alone; he would be happy to help at a price.’

The idea intrigued Guntley, and he sent four of his werewolves across the woods, into the mundane communities. Werewolves were deadly beasts and worked as assassins for Mayfalls. The people of Mayfalls would hardly enter the human communities. They enjoyed staying a myth for the mortals.

The aroma of fresh tomato soup from the cottage made the four men drool for a second or two. They pulled out their binoculars to look for their savior, the mystery sorcerer. Their expressions went from excited to shock when they saw the expected guy wasn’t a “him” at all. The sorcerer was a stunning young lady. They got eager, typical men. Except, Hudson. Those honey eyes; brunette hair, and that graceful walk. That was no ordinary magic girl. He recognized her in an instant, although she has changed a lot of her appearance. She was one of the royals.

How did she survive? They were all killed.

That turned the things upside down. The royal blood is still alive.
