Finally, June 15th was here, the last day of school, Lisa couldn’t wait. She had been invited to a party at Scott, a well known football player’s house. She wasn’t going to go but her best friend Susie, told her Mark would be there. Mark was also on the football team and Lisa, was so in love with him even though he had no idea who she was. She had fantasized about him all of her freshman year. What girl wouldn’t find a senior who played football sexy. That night finally came.
Lisa and Susie had gotten ready for the party at Susie’s house where she was spending the night. Lisa and Susie made a pact that they would not drink at the party and they would look after each other, after all they were best friends. The party at Scott’s house did not disappoint. Everyone was there including Mark who happened to notice Lisa when she walked in. After about twenty minutes Mark asked Lisa if she wanted a beer and she declined at first but he looked disappointed so she said yes. She told herself she would only take sips. Three beers later Lisa found herself in a bedroom with Mark kissing. She stopped him, but he looked into her eyes and said, “I like you a lot. Don’t worry I’ll be careful”.
Afterwards they had gotten dressed and began to walk back downstairs where Lisa noticed Susie and Scott were getting close as well. Susie, said to Lisa, “Girl where have you been?! Have you been drinking?!” After the party the girls went back to Susie’s house where Lisa told her what happened. Susie, in disbelief couldn’t believe it and also told Lisa about how her and Scott made out and that she was so in love. They both laughed and fantasized about how two best friends would marry two best friends.
Summer had come and Mark had not called even though Susie and Scott had been dating and were basically a couple. Lisa, couldn’t understand why Mark hadn’t called her but all became clear when she saw him with Linda, cheerleader from their school. Lisa was heart broken and couldn’t understand what she had done wrong. Fall soon followed and things had changed. Lisa didn’t see much of Susie anymore and she noticed other things as well. Lisa, soon realized she was in trouble and was terrified. She had not had her period and she was nauseous, so nauseous and tired.
She took a pregnancy test which confirmed it and she then called Mark. They met up and she told him. To her surprise he panicked and denied being the father. He told her to get rid of it because he was going off to college and he did not want a baby. He then blamed her for not making him use a condom, told her it was her problem and stormed away. Lisa, was devastated.
After the shock of it all wore off she called Susie, and went over to her house to talk. To Lisa’s surprise Susie was also pissed. “Mark told Scott you were pregnant and trying to ruin his life. Thanks a lot Lisa, now Scott is angry at me because we are friends and he now thinks I will do the same thing!” “Thanks for ruining both our lives. I told you not to drink!” Lisa, was speechless, she couldn’t believe it. Days went by then months. Scott and Mark had went on to college. Susie had new friends and Lisa, well Lisa was still very much pregnant. She had gotten good at hiding it. She figured well she didn’t figure out anything.
She knew she didn’t believe in abortions. Maybe she thought it would just go away. Luckily she was so skinny she was able to hid her belly pretty well. Even through Thanksgiving no one suspected anything. The baby kicked all of the time. With each kick she wanted to cry, cry because she felt so alone and desperate. She just wanted to take back that night and pretend nothing ever happened. It was getting close to Christmas when Lisa was awakened with a sharp pain. She thought, “ Oh no! This is too early, I thought I’d have more time!”. She panicked and had gotten dressed.
She grab a blanket and walking through the woods, scared and not knowing what to do. She stumbled upon her neighbors barn in the woods She just didn’t know what else to do, definitely wasn’t thinking this was something she would be worrying about at 15. I just wanted him to notice me, maybe liked me the way that I like him she thought. It was only that one time just one. It wasn’t even suppose to go that far. God will forgive me, won’t he, the guilt and shame I will bring on my family if anyone finds out. Oh god Why did I wait so long. She couldn’t believe she was giving birth in a barn in the cold, scared, and alone.
No one can ever find out what’s happened. She had her whole life ahead of her. I just can’t be a mother it’s not right, not right now. These are all the thoughts that are going through my head as she’s walking through the deep dark woods. Panicking, crying, cold, in pain, all alone with a baby. She walked until She couldn’t go any further, something gets her attention. It’s the moon, a full moon reflecting off of the water and ice, it’s a pond. A deep, dark pond that was freezing over. This was the way, the only way out.
It’s a private pond it would freeze and wouldn’t thaw for quite some time. Lisa felt something she hasn’t felt in a long time. Relief, she could be herself again and pretend this mistake she had made didn’t happen. Abortion was wrong but this, this was gods way of helping her she thought. The baby is too young it wouldn’t survive. After all it hadn’t even cried .This wasn’t her fault it wasn’t. This was definitely her chance to start over. This is it, no turning back now. It will be months before the pond thaws. It’s ok it will all be ok.
