The Day the Sky Forgot to Shine

A brave girl’s journey to bring back the sun

By Hamza TahirPublished 6 months ago 3 min read

One morning, something very strange happened. The sun did not rise.

The village of Liora was always full of sunshine. Every morning, the sky was pink and orange. Birds sang happy songs. People smiled and worked in the fields. But on this morning, everything was dark.

There were no clouds. There was no rain. Just black sky—quiet and empty.

People were confused and afraid. Children asked, “Where is the sun?” Farmers held up lamps, hoping to see better. The clock rang to tell the time, but there was no morning.

Some people thought the sun would come back soon. But it didn’t.

Days passed, and it stayed dark. The crops started to die. People stayed inside their homes. They lit candles and told old stories. One story said that the sky has a soul, and if it becomes sad, it stops shining.

There was a little girl named Elia. She was small and quiet, but very brave. Her grandmother once told her, “The sky shines because it feels happy. If it forgets, someone must remind it.”

Elia believed that story.

So, one evening, Elia packed her bag. She took a piece of bread, a small compass, and the last warm ember from her family’s fire. She left a note that said:

“I’m going to find the sun.”

---

Elia walked into the dark forest near the village. The trees looked strange. There were no animals. The wind didn’t blow. But she didn’t stop.

She walked for a long time. Her feet hurt. Her hands were cold. She crossed rivers and climbed hills. She felt tired and scared, but every time she wanted to stop, she looked at the little glowing ember in her bag. It reminded her to keep going.

One day, she saw a strange hill. At the top, there was a stone gate. Words were written on it. She didn’t know the language, but somehow, she understood what it said:

“Only the brave can wake the sky.”

Elia took a deep breath and walked through the gate.

---

Behind the gate was a magical world. The sky was full of clouds that didn’t move. Islands floated in the air. In the middle stood a big glass palace.

Elia walked inside the palace. There she saw a tall figure made of light and wind. This was Solen—the spirit of the sky.

Solen looked at her and asked, “Why are you here?”

Elia said, “The world is dark. People are sad. We need your light.”

Solen said, “People forgot me. They stopped looking at the stars. They stopped dreaming. I gave them light, but they didn’t care. So I left.”

Elia held out the little ember from her bag. “This is the last light in our village. It’s small, but it still shines. We remember you. I remember.”

Solen was quiet. Then something amazing happened—the ember began to glow brighter.

The sky started to change. Colors came back. A soft wind began to blow. Solen smiled.

“You reminded me why I shine,” Solen said. “I will return.”

---

Elia walked back to her village. Behind her, the sun began to rise.

People came out of their homes. They smiled. Birds started singing again. Flowers opened. Everyone was happy.

They asked, “How did the light come back?”

“Elia brought it,” someone said. “She woke the sky.”

Every year after that, the people of Liora had a special day. They lit a small fire and told the story of the brave girl who walked into the dark to find the sun.

They called her The Sky-Waker.

Moral of the Story:

Even in the darkest times, one small light and one brave heart can make a big difference.
