The Day I Decided the Universe Was Listening

How a 30-day experiment with the Law of Attraction changed how I think

By Atif khurshaidPublished 3 months ago 3 min read

For most of my life, I thought positive thinking was a polite way of denying reality. People who said “you attract what you believe” seemed to live in a fantasy world. Meanwhile, I was stuck in mine — overworked, underpaid, and constantly anxious. I wasn’t unhappy because I lacked things; I was unhappy because I believed I didn’t deserve more.

That belief followed me everywhere. When I applied for jobs, I secretly expected rejection. When I looked at my bank account, I expected it to be empty. I didn’t realize it then, but I was constantly affirming lack — and the universe kept delivering exactly that.

One night, scrolling through my phone in that half-awake fog, I stumbled on a quote:

“The universe doesn’t give you what you ask for with your words; it gives you what you demand with your vibration.”

Something about that line hit me like a jolt. I didn’t completely understand it, but I was tired enough — and desperate enough — to test it. I told myself I’d run a 30-day experiment: for one month, I’d pretend the Law of Attraction was absolutely real.

Week 1 — Rewriting My Thoughts

I started small. Each morning, before checking my phone, I wrote down three things I was grateful for — even if they were tiny: my morning coffee, the sound of rain, my warm blanket. It felt silly at first, but something shifted. Gratitude made me pay attention to what was working instead of what was missing.

When negative thoughts came — “I’ll never get out of this mess” — I caught them mid-sentence and replaced them with “Everything is working out for me.” I didn’t always believe it, but I kept saying it anyway.

Week 2 — Acting “As If”

Next, I started behaving like the person who already had the life I wanted. If I wanted to feel confident, I stood taller. If I wanted abundance, I treated myself with small kindness — a nice coffee, a walk in nature — instead of hoarding every penny in fear.

I visualized getting a better job, not by begging the universe, but by imagining the feeling of being hired — the relief, the excitement, the pride. I began sending out resumes from that energy instead of dread.

Week 3 — Letting Go of Control

This was the hardest part: trusting. My old habit was micromanaging outcomes. If something didn’t happen instantly, I took it as proof the universe had forgotten me. But I remembered something I’d read:

“Your job is to decide what you want. The universe’s job is to figure out how.”

So I stopped obsessing over how things would come. I focused on maintaining my vibration — my mindset, my gratitude — and kept doing my part.

Week 4 — The Shift

Around day 25, small things began to happen. A friend I hadn’t spoken to in years texted me about an opening at her company. I applied, and for the first time, I expected good news. When the offer came through two weeks later, I wasn’t even surprised — I was grateful, but calm.

The universe hadn’t suddenly “rewarded” me; it had simply matched the energy I finally believed I deserved.

What I Learned

The Law of Attraction isn’t magic. It’s alignment. It’s you deciding that your thoughts, emotions, and actions will live in the same direction instead of fighting each other.

You can’t fake belief, but you can practice it until it becomes natural. Gratitude rewires your focus; visualization reshapes your confidence; trust keeps your heart open long enough for opportunities to appear.

Even now, when life throws challenges, I remind myself: I am the signal the universe tunes into. And the clearer that signal, the stronger the response.

If I ever doubt it, I look back at that notebook from my 30-day experiment. The first page says, “Maybe this is crazy, but I’m willing to try.”

By the last page, it says, “The universe was always listening — I just finally started speaking its language.”
