The Cryptoverse For You!
The tight loops and roller coaster ride of blockchain

---
The bear run
No! no! no!
This was not happening. Not again!
I lifted the pillow on my side. It was not there. I threw the bedsheets away. It was not there. I searched in the drawers. It was not there. I looked under the bed. It was not there!
Had the bastard taken my laptop behind my back and pawned it!?
I took my phone and called him. I could hear an owl hooting. It did so at least twice. Was it in my head or was it the ringing tone from the phone as he waited to pick the call? Either way, it wasn't a good sign. From it, I could tell I wouldn't like what I was going to hear when he picked. I was shaking like a leaf as I waited.
"Hey babe." He said when he picked up.
"Rico, did you take my laptop and pawned it for money to trade on that fake crypto exchange thingy again?"
"Baaaabe listen… babe." He attempted to smooth talk me.
That's what he always did when he was in the wrong. I could read him like an open book. I cut the line. I did not want to listen to what he would have to say. I had had it with this man and I was done! Officially!

Ever since he had discovered cryptocurrencies he had jumped on the bandwagon with full force. Of course, he didn't invest in thorough information first so he had been losing like crazy. He started with putting a huge proportion of his salary in it. Then he quit his job to trade it fully as he felt his job was a distraction and that it hindered successful trading. He stood to gain more from crypto trading he said.
He kept losing of course. He could gain a little from time to time but proceed to lose a portion or all of his gains next. Then he started to sell his personal items for capital to pump into the trades. He started with his car, then his motorcycle, then his bicycle, then his gaming screen, his laptop, our TV, his expensive smartphone, and other household items.
I had gone to warm food one day and couldn't find the microwave. Then I had gone to cook another time and there was no gas cylinder. Apparently, he was selling them to pay some small debts he had acquired from borrowing money to trade crypto.
Sometimes I had to eat raw dry noodles because even the water had been disconnected. Another time I had to ask my neighbor to kindly charge my phone for me as he had not recharged our electricity units.
Today my laptop was missing. I knew what he had done and I couldn't take it anymore! He had stretched me beyond my elastic limit.
I needed that laptop. That's what I used to write, publish and monitor my blogs. It was my tool of trade. It is the same blog that had been feeding us in the six months since he had started this crypto madness. He always promised he would make it big and that everything would be ok. He even accused me of being unsupportive in his ventures.
"You got to have faith in your man Gal." He would tell me in defeat anytime I brought the subject up. "A woman needs to have faith in their man. We men are suffering out here because our women don't have faith in us."
I hated this manipulation. How did I not have faith in him when I had been putting up with his poor decisions and this nonsense for months?
" Why don't you figure out how to do it correctly through the people that know how to. Also, do it on credible exchanges." I would nudge him.
I think he heard me but he did not budge or heed my advice. My boyfriend was a proud and stubborn man. The same qualities that had attracted me to him had come back to bite. I felt thoroughly defeated!
This was not the man I had fallen in love with. That man had been sensible and responsible. He was a patient hard worker that was good with money. He wasn't the kind of guy that would be quickly swept by the tides or jump into a get-rich-quick pyramid scheme. He never cared about trends even. He bought items for quality and utility. Not because they were in style. I could not wrap my head around what had suddenly happened to him. Had he badly hit his head on something?
You see, I was heavily pregnant. In a few months, we would be having a baby in the house. Why am I calling it house and it was a simple cramped up apartment that we had moved into like 2 years earlier? The plan was for us to make more money, move into a bigger space and start a family.
But that was before my dear lovely man had discovered that he could double his money in the cryptoverse within minutes and he could take us to paradise much sooner than we had planned!
How did I become pregnant in this mess you might ask? You see the crypto environment is a highly volatile one. You can make some really good money really quickly. And that is what happened. One day my very dedicated crypto trader made some good money and we celebrated his wonderful gains. And I mean really celebrated.
We went out drinking in the clubs where I danced till morning. You should have seen me grinning from ear to ear feeling very happy about making quick and easy money. I don't even like to look at those pictures even though I was looking really good in that hugging little black dress. The videos are worse! I was laughing like a crazy h Mkyena. Totally happy! Oblivious of what was to come next.
Oh, the foolishness that was documented that night! Now seven months down the line I was paying for it. The high volatility of crypto had extended to my real life. Now almost 7 months down the line, I didn't have a laptop to work on, I had a baby on the way, and the shabbiest man you have ever seen. He wasn't eating well as we couldn't afford large meals, his cheekbones were starting to protrude. He had neglected his grooming too which made him look much worse in his now baggy clothes.
"How can they even go ahead and make babies when they haven't even paid the rent." I heard the caretaker of my building whispering to the cleaner after I had walked past them one evening. "How will they be able to feed it even? They even sold everything. There is nothing in that house! And the way they had stuff… Some people have no shame. They have the energy to do the nasty business but not to make money to pay their rent!"
We had become the gossip of the neighborhood. My man had debts everywhere. He had even borrowed some sugar from a neighbor. We were always late to pay the rent. As I was saving up for the baby, I let Rico figure that out. And I didn't want to know how he did it. And this was mainly because that was our agreement right from the start. He had his bills in the household and I had mine. I did not budge on this!
The weight of a baby on the way made everything much worse. It made him risk more which in turn made him lose much more. He was trading with emotions super desperate to not only make money but to recover all he had lost so far. It didn't work.
I also didn't keep the new items I got for the baby in our house. I usually took them to a friend who was kind enough to store them for me in the meantime. My bones would shake every time I thought about what Rico would do to them. Imagine a scenario where your water has broken, or are already in labour and is trying to locate your baby bag to go to the hospital only to discover that the father of your baby had sold the items to gamble!
"This is just a test in your relationship." My friend Patty would try to reassure me when I took new baby items to her for safekeeping. " Everyone has them. Some people are being messed by alcohol, others by infidelity, others by cults, others by who knows what. This is just a test. Things will get better… just keep the faith."
I would simply shake my head. I was exhausted from talking about it.
I had even started a subreddit earlier. Votcv -victims of the cryptoverse. It was a place where people came to vent about how participating in crypto had ruined their lives. I had started it seeking the comfort of sisterhood and shared experiences but the stories on there just made me relive my tormenting experiences. So I quit.
Some people were having it worse than I was I admit. But that was not reassuring at all. It just made me feel as though it was the direction I was headed. I was constantly being bombarded from all directions by these thoughts.
The bull run
But that was last month. You can only guess what happened last week!
Let me explain by showing you text screenshots.

Well, as you can guess, we really did do some celebrating when my man came back home. I had kicked him out after the laptop saga. I don't know if you can get pregnant while already heavily pregnant because the celebrating we did was straight-up baby creation worthy haha.
I know you might be thinking, but that's not a lot of money… But where I come from it is. It's almost a million in my currency. So you can imagine!
Anyway, we have paid all our debts and bought back some of the stuff he had pawned. Of course, I took over and planned what to do with most of the winnings.
The support
We are happy still celebrating. Mostly emotionally. Our love is as strong as ever. Stronger even. He has been saying that our love was being tested by his bad trades. And that he redeemed himself. I just love how my man loves me. And he can't understand how I was able to withstand all the crap he had been bringing my way for those months. He promised to do better.
I am actually typing this story on the brand-new laptop he got me. The one he pawned was an old piece of crap anyway! Some bad things happen to make others good, right? See his bad trades also inspired a blog post haha!
But don't think I am dumb. Coz I know at this point you must be rolling your eyes on how quickly I came around. Haha. You just need to understand love you know... And the places it can take somebody.
Some part of me still feels he might go back to that bad trading streak again though and for that I made him send some of his winnings to my own crypto account as an insurance policy. He even received another tiny crypto gift from the exchange for that transfer. They are really throwing this crypto money around…
What about the baby stuff you might ask? Those are staying at my friend's until the baby arrives. The traumatic experience of finding stuff missing from the house has completely prevented me from bringing them over. I can take anything at this point clearly, but my baby is where I draw the line!
But he is doing well so far. So fingers crossed 🤞.
The cryptoverse comes with some really crazy super highs and some really crazy super lows. Take it from my personal experience. Venture into it with caution!
From the winnings, I also bought my man a cute barn owl 🦉 figurine to remind him to be wise about his trades moving forward.
A woman has to have some faith in her man and positively motivate him. Even when the cryptoverse gets in the way. Ain't that right?
But a man should also not drive his woman crazy.
But that's the cryptoverse for you! With all its super crazy highs and super crazy lows. Right now we are at a crazy high. And I am digging it fully. Totally bathing in that sunlight because I know how much mud the super crazy lows dragged me through.
But again, that's the cryptoverse for you!
