The Clever Crow and the Curious Rabbit

How Curiosity Met Cunning in the Heart of the Forest

By RohullahPublished 8 months ago 3 min read

In the heart of an ancient forest, where sunlight dripped through moss-covered branches and the air smelled of pine and mystery, lived two unlikely neighbors: a curious young rabbit named Remi, and a clever crow named Corwin.

Remi lived in a cozy burrow beneath the roots of an old oak tree. He was known throughout the woodland as the rabbit with a thousand questions. “Why do mushrooms glow at night?” “Where do the stars go in the morning?” “How do birds learn to fly?” No leaf turned or shadow shifted without Remi wanting to know why.

Corwin, on the other hand, was a seasoned crow. He lived high above in the canopy and had seen more of the world than most creatures in the forest. He was sharp, clever, and sometimes a little too fond of playing tricks—especially on those who didn’t ask questions carefully.

One dewy morning, as Remi was hopping along a narrow trail in search of wildberries, he heard the flap of wings and a sharp “Caw!” above him.

“Well, well, what’s the little hopper up to today?” Corwin asked, circling before landing on a branch just overhead.

“I’m searching for the Golden Berries,” Remi replied excitedly. “They say they only grow at the edge of the forest, and they taste like sunlight!”

Corwin tilted his head. “Golden Berries, you say? Dangerous path to take. The edge of the forest is full of thorns, foxes, and worse.”

Remi’s ears twitched. “Have you seen them?”

“I have,” said Corwin with a sly smile. “But I’m not one to give away secrets for free.”

Remi blinked. “What do you want in return?”

The crow leaned forward. “A riddle. If you can answer my riddle, I’ll tell you where to find the berries. If not… you must give me a treasure from your burrow.”

Remi hesitated. He didn’t have much, but he did have a collection of shiny pebbles, feathers, and trinkets—things he loved.

Still, curiosity bubbled inside him like a stream after spring rain. “Deal,” he said. “Tell me the riddle.”

Corwin grinned. “What has roots as nobody sees,

Is taller than trees,

Up, up it goes,

And yet never grows?”

Remi’s nose twitched. He tapped a paw against his chin. He thought about roots, trees, and the sky.

Minutes passed. Corwin began to caw with laughter. “Do you give up, little rabbit?”

Remi’s eyes suddenly lit up. “A mountain!” he exclaimed. “It has roots deep in the earth, stands taller than trees, and never grows!”

Corwin blinked, startled. “Well, well. The rabbit is clever too.”

“You promised to tell me where to find the Golden Berries,” Remi said, standing tall.

“A promise is a promise,” Corwin nodded. “Follow the stream until you find a fallen birch tree. Look beyond the ferns, where the light turns gold at dusk. That’s where they grow.”

Remi thanked him and bounded off, heart thudding with excitement. True to the crow’s word, after a long journey, he found a clearing where the sun bathed the earth in a golden hue. Nestled among the grass were clusters of berries the color of molten gold. He tasted one—it was sweeter than any dream.

As he picked a few to take home, Remi couldn’t stop smiling. He’d found what he was looking for, all thanks to his curiosity—and the crow’s cunning.

But the story didn’t end there.

Days later, Remi returned the favor.

Corwin found himself caught in a trap left by a hunter—his wing tangled in a net, his sharp wit powerless against rope and steel. He cawed for help, but few dared approach.

Except for Remi.

The rabbit wriggled through the underbrush, nibbled at knots, and tugged the rope with his teeth. It took time and effort, but eventually, Corwin was free.

“Why would you help me?” Corwin asked, stunned. “Even after I tried to trick you?”

Remi smiled. “Because I was curious what it would feel like to be brave.”

From that day on, the clever crow and the curious rabbit became true friends. They wandered the forest together—Remi asking questions, Corwin answering with riddles, and both learning something new from the other.

And so, in the heart of the forest, where magic and mystery still thrive, the tale of how curiosity met cunning lived on—reminding all creatures that the sharpest minds and the kindest hearts often make the greatest pair.
