The cabin looked empty but I knew how warm
and welcoming it will be in a couple of days after I got it ready for the Christmas Holiday.
Jim was flying in on Christmas Eve and then a whole week together away from our busy work schedules.
I was passing the only grocery store in the small town of crest view and decided I had better get grocery before going to the cabin.
I got out the car and saw that it was just beginning to snow. I gathered all the essentials i needed then remembrance the wood for the fire place.
At that moment a tall good looking man with curly reddish brown hair In a plaid red flannel shirt came up to me and asked me if I needed help.
Where is your wood? I asked.
Oh. It is out back. How much do you need? I would suggest enough for several days with the storm coming.
Oh okay, I replied,
You must be who rented the cabin up the hill. He exclaimed.Tell you what, I will bring it up to you.
Thank you thst would be great. Yes I’m in the Woodard Cabin.
Yes I know. He said. I saw you come from that direction
Thank you! I gave him a friendly smile. He quickly returned my smile.
As soon as I got inside the cabin I called Jim.
He was busy in a meeting his assistant told me. He was a CEO of a company so I had gotten use to taking a back seat to his job.
I put the teapot on and began decorating for Christmas with all the holiday things I brought with me.
A knock came at the door.
When I opened it the grocery clerk was standing there in a plaid lumber jacket and jeans.
I brought you some wood, bellowed .
I looked out the door though the falling snow and saw a red truck fill with wood.
Oh my gosh! That is a lot of wood.
I said.
You never know when you might need it. he replied.
Well come in for some coffee when you finish.
He stacked the wood on the porch and he came over to the table and sip coffee from the red mug I placed there for him.
As we talked I found out he came down from the city to help his dad out at the store and to spend time with his family .
Do you know where I could find a Xmas tree? I asked.
Of course- I’ll take you - it’s a farm where you can cut down your own tree.
Okay I said.
We rode up the mountain to The Hickory farm. We walked though a maze of lovely evergreen trees.
This one as he pointed to a perfect triangle shaped tree, he said. I looked at it and loved how tall and full it was.
He handed me the axe and I barely make a dent in it trying to chop it down. We laughed and he finally brought it down with a strong powerful chop.
It was snowing harder suddenly and we rush to put the tree in the back of the truck and back to the the cabin
I thanked him at the door for everything and he turned to me smiled and said he was glad to help .
After coming inside
I looked around and just thought how Jim will love this place all decorated and cozy yet I remembered he never really cared about anything I did just sort of agreed with me to keep me from getting upset.
Only that night the grocery clerk, George he said was his name face kept appearing in my dream.
Christmas Eve morning while having my breakfast the news announced that because of the snow all roads were closed . No one could get in or out of this quaint little mountain town.
Then my cell phone ringed. It was Jim all the flights were cancelled to this area.
I was devastated! I thought maybe if I went out I could capture the Xmas spirit again. The town folks didn’t let the weather spoil their holiday. People were shopping and the town tree was about to be lit while a choir was singing Xmas songs. Suddenly I didn’t feel so bad anymore and just before the tree was lit. George to my surprise came and stood beside me.
He asked how was the tree? Hey I said why don’t you come over and help me decorate it,
We had such fun and all the snacks I had got for Jim and I were gobbled up in no time.
I was coming down the ladder from putting the star at the top of the Xmas tree when I almost fell but George catch me in his arms.
He held me there looking into my eyes and then he kissed me. To my surprise I kissed him back.
He put me down and we kissed again for a long time and I put my arms around his neck and never wanted it to end.
I’m sorry he said as he pulled away from me.
You are just so beautiful. He said.
Hey tomorrow my sister owns the town cafe- she invited a few people over for Xmas dinner- I like to invite you to come. Can you?
I said sure I would
love to come.
The cafe was decked out in evergreens and herbs everywhere.
His sister was a gracious hostess.
His dad sat at the head of the long table as more than a dozen guest feasted on delicious I had a wonderful time.
There was piles of snow everywhere as George drove me home in his red truck. He casually mentioned that he was a lawyer and had decided to open his office here close to his family.
When he walked me to the door he grabbed my hand
Can I talk to you for a moment. He asked.
Sure, I answered.
We sat down in the swing on the porch. He put his arms around my shoulders, We sat in silence and looked out at the forest all covered with snow.
It so beautiful I whispered.
I knew, he began slowly. that when I find the one for me - I would know- well. He suddenly got up and went down on his knees and pulled out a beautiful emerald ring.
I’m asking you to stay with me and be my wife He said looking tenderly in my eyes.
At first I thought of Jim. We had been dating years but never have I felt like I felt when I’m with George snd I knew in my heart that I had fallen in love with him.
I said yes.
George’s family owned the cabin snd half of the town. I stayed on in the cabin which became our home after our summer mountain top wedding which his sister planned with herbs and wild flowers everywhere. George I heard marred his assistant soon after I told him I wasn’t coming back
- [ ] As i stood holding hands with George after our vows watching the sun slide slowly down behind the mountains I knew I had found my true love other half
The one and only that made me snd my life complete.
