The twigs snapped all around her. Whether from her own footfalls or another she was not sure. She thought she'd be more agile, more nimble. The proof of her failures echoed through the trees, in the depths of the dark forest. Not wanting to draw extra attention she slowed her steps. Ducked her head a bit lower.
The pond revealed itself in the desolate clearing. Few knew the secrets of the pond, the moon's opal reflection lit up the surface. Stepping into the water, her reflection of a magnificent doe was replaced by that of an elegant swan.
