The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. My best friend, Unique, and I were right in front of the window, the candle was beaming right into our eyes. Something about it didn’t feel right, “Ooouu, let’s check out what’s happening in there, Naomi.” Unique cheered, I glared at her with so much discernment. She has already convinced me to be in the streets late at night with barely any street lights on. I’m dressed up in a black sweat shorts, a black cropped hoodie, and black air force ones. Unique is wearing the same thing, but in white; “Look at what we’re wearing. I’m sure whoever is in there is a pervert.” I nag, she stares at me violently; I look around the empty streets. I look into the woods and I see a tree hanging; as if it would break any second. I was that tree, I looked down into the large puddle in between the bricked sidewalk we were walking on and the gated cabin across from us. I see my face drooping in the water’s frame, all I could think was this is how I felt everyday. Deformed, misunderstood; weird. “Come on, Naomi!” She wasn’t going to stop telling me to come with her inside that scary cabin; she was stubborn like that. She always got us into trouble, though we always got out of it. “Fine.” I rolled my eyes and I followed her across the puddle. My feet were soaked, and cold; I followed her to the cabin anyway. When she began to crouch, so did I, when she looked into the window I stayed crouched against the cabin. “Okay, I think it’s clear to go in.” Unique whispered, She goes over to the front door and gently opens it.. Something inside of me wanted to tell Unique “No, stop.” But I knew she wouldn’t have listened to me anyway, so we went inside the creepy, dim cabin. The first thing I noticed was the fireplace, it was in the center of the floor. It had a rocking chair beside it and a brown and red wool rug in front of it. It seemed like someone had just put a fire out. “Unique, someone’s in here.” She rolls her eyes, “Duh.” We both heard a creak coming from the bottom of the cabin, I yanked my whole body back. “We have to get out of here, it doesn’t feel safe.” I trembled, “You don’t feel safe anywhere.” She snaps, I begin to give Unique the death stare. “WELL, YOU FEEL SAFE ANYWHERE! EVEN WHEN IT’S NOT SAFE!” I shouted, frustrated with her I stormed out of the cabin and I left her behind. I was tired of following her around like some type of pet. I began to walk back to the bus through the puddle, I looked down at my fourteen year old face; I asked myself how in the hell did I get here. All of a sudden I hear Unique shout, I pulled my head backwards. She began to hawler again and for some reason I turned around and I ran towards the cabin. Luckily, I always carry a pocket knife. I swing the cabin door open and I don’t see anyone, not a person or best friend in sight. The screaming even stopped, but the candle was still lit against that window. I grabbed it and I took it with me down the hall, I opened each door and each room was empty with either mold or an infestation of rats. “Why in the hell did she want to come here..” I began to hear muffling, as if someone was trying to keep quiet. “UNIQUE, ARE YOU PLAYING WITH ME?!” I shaked my head and I began to feel enraged in my heart and soul. “THIS IS NOT SOME KIND OF JOKE! I’M WORRIED ABOUT YOU!” I moved into what must’ve been the kitchen, empty with a rusted refrigerator, rusted oven, and rusted, brown counters. The floor was disgustingly yellowish, brown; it smelled like pure urine. I looked inside the fridge and there’s tons of containers with some red and sluggishness. It smelled like pure death; I began to hear what sounded like a small “help” . I looked behind the foul smelling fridge and there’s a hole in the wall. I truly didn’t want to go inside, but I had to. Unique was my best friend, I grabbed the candle and I went inside the dark hole. I mean it was completely pitch black I could not see a single person or thing. I just knew it smelled foul, like something had died inside. I went deeper inside the hole, I could hear the muffling clearer; I started to feel around, “Unique?” I took the tape off of her mouth; “Hello? Unique?”

“My name is not Unique, it’s Redna.” I flash the candle light in the little girl’s face. She could’ve been stuck there for days, maybe even weeks.. “We’ve gotta get out of here.” I dragged her by the arm not realizing she was still tied up. I turned around and I felt for the rope, I sat the candle light behind both of us, I took out my pocket knife and I began to gently cut her loose from the ropes. “Let me know if I’m hurting you.” I whispered in her ear, she didn't say a word back. That little girl was traumatized, she could rarely say a word..

We started to make our way out of the hole, all of a sudden I heard another thump. It reminded me nothing was over, I still had to save Unique. I helped Redna out of the hole and I led her outside with my phone. “Call 911, tell them you need help. Then leave my phone right outside and run as fast as you possibly can.” Redna ran out of the house and she did exactly what I said. I realized as I was walking up and down the cabin hall that the wood floors were loose; I knelt down on the ground and I used my long nails to lift the floor boards. I finally found an opening, but it wasn’t something I wanted to see. My best friend is tied up to a wooden cross, naked. There’s a boy not far from our age hovering above her, taunting her. “HEY!” I screamed as loud as I possibly could. He looked up at me and grinned, “Something else for me to play with.” He giggled. I rolled my eyes, and I got prepared for him to come up and grab me. I hid my knife in my back sweat short pocket, he finally climbed up and ran towards me. When he got close enough I stabbed him in the stomach. I jumped down into his little rabbit hole and I untied Unique from the wooden cross, her body was heavy on my back. She was drugged up, her head was bashed pretty hard and she was extremely delirious. The weird boy jumped down where we were, and screeched “YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!” His face was becoming even more pale than it already was, his eyes were extremely dark and tired. His stomach bled out all over his carpet and torture equipment, “THE POLICE ARE ON THE WAY! YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET OUT NOW!” I shouted as I was holding Unique’s limp body, “MOVE OUT OF OUR WAY!” He laughed hysterically, “You think I care about the police, you idiot.”

“FREEZE!” The police made it, and I could finally take a deep breath of air. The guy froze up, and he put his hands up. I began to grin, I could see my life getting clearer again; and then I got up to the main area of the cabin with Unique. I saw the officer lecturing the pale, weird maniac as if they knew each other. The guy wasn’t even cuffed and that’s when I knew the officer wasn’t planning on putting them on him. “What's going on?” My little voice echoed through the halls, “It’s all going to be okay, just relax. Alright?” The officer demanded. I knelt down to Unique, “I’m going to come back for you.” I whispered, I began to bolt towards the back of the hall. “STOP HER!” The officer shouted, and then the maniac began to run after me. I run into a room and I slam the door into his face. Half of his arm and hand were still stuck between the door, so I took my knife and I started to stab his hand ten times. He yanked his own hand out of the door, and I could finally lock the door. I tried to unlock the windows, but they were bolted shut. I took my hand and I folded it in my sleeve, I grabbed my knife and I smashed the windows. I climbed through the window, glass splitting through my legs and hands; I made it outside, though but someone grabbed me. I didn’t let that stop me from squirming, kicking and punching. Somehow, someway I made him trip up and he dropped me off of a cliff into a forest. My head was banged up, and my ears were ringing but I was still alive and I still had so much more work to do. My best friend was still in that cabin and nothing was stopping me from getting her.

I ran farther out into the woods, I ran so far that my legs were numb. When I felt like they had lost me I turned left making a circular motion; hoping I was moving towards the back of the cabin. I continued to walk for about 20 minutes, and I finally saw the street me and Unique were on when we saw the candle light beaming against the window. I’m two miles away from the porch where my phone was left by Redna. I looked around and the streets were still empty. All I had to do was call my parents, and everything will be okay. That’s what I’d hope for anyway. I tiptoed towards my phone, I grabbed it and the battery was on three percent. I went back into the dark woods and I dialed my mom’s number; no answer. I then called my dad, his phone rarely even rang. It was up to me to get us out of this mess, it was up to me to finish this. I went over to the police car, hoping and praying there was something I could use to escape with. The key was in the ignition, I grinned, giggled even. I knew exactly what I was going to do; I turned my phone on, clicked on itunes and I began to play music. I laid my phone right in front of the police car; I went into the police car and I ducked down. Both the maniac, and the police officer went in front of the car, I started the ignition and I pushed my foot on the gas. I didn’t know if they were dead, but I did know they weren’t getting up. I ran out of the car, I paced towards the front door. I swung the door open and I grabbed Unique, she’s still limp but she could walk on her own. I put her in the backseat and I drove off, going towards the hospital. As I was driving I saw Redna limping down the street, I rolled the windows down; “Hey, get in.” Redna without a word got into the front seat and rode with us. “Where are we going?” She asked, “Home.”

We finally made it to the hospital, I checked Redna and Unique in while I just sat here waiting for someone like you to ask us what happened.

I look into the doctor's eyes, helpless, and harmed. “So, you called the police and you came to find out that they were going to help the perpetrator get away with everything?” The doctor asks. “Exactly.” I look down at my dirty, blistered hands, “So when can you call our families?” The doctor looks at me with so much pity, “They’re on their way now. A policeman had to stop by your house to let them know you’re here. They wouldn’t answer their phones.” I look at him frantically, “Have you not learned that policemen aren’t safe?!” I snap, The doctor grabs my hand but I yank it back. “YOU MUST BE APART OF THIS TOO!” I begin to freak out, I start to knock vases over, paperwork, chairs, everything. The doctor begins to grab my arms, “SOMEONE GRAB HER LEGS!” A nurse comes to grab my legs, I squirm as hard as I can. I fight and I fight, I will never stop fighting.
