Chapter 1: The Green Thrombus
When Irene, an ecologist, dissected the body of a logger, she found the dead man's alveoli covered in barnacle-like spores. This was the third case of 'plant backlash' she'd encountered, but this time it was different - the rotting mahogany annual rings were clearly visible on the CT slice, as if the tree had put its roots into the human circulatory system.
As she cultured the fungus with the dead man's blood, the microscope suddenly displayed a countdown: 'Amazonian left lung lobe failure remaining: 713 hours'. The lab table erupted into a sapling, branches wrapped around her wrist branding a leaf vein tattoo, and a whisper appeared in her head, “Find the one who stole the breath.”
Chapter 2: The Photosynthesis Protocol
The tattoo guides Erin to the Lost Tribe in the tree canopy. Native elders with two living emerald eyeballs play ancestral memories on a resin record: “In the seventies the oil companies took away walking amber with the heart of the Breath Harmonizer sealed inside”
The system's first explicit mission: 'Repair the carbon exchange balance'. Suddenly she can read the painful pulses of the trees, and the rainforest unfolds before her eyes as a giant biological neural network. A jaguar carries a 1942 drilling helmet with a distress signal made of oil.
With the help of a tribal maiden, Irene finds an ecological monitoring station that has been converted into a casino. The roulette table is actually a giant wheel of years, and the rich and powerful are exchanging mahogany chips for 'oxygen futures'. The moment she touches the table, all the light fixtures suddenly grow into cannibalistic vines.
Chapter 3: Choking Economy
While sneaking into the underground vault, Erin realized that the real merchandise was CO2 quotas encapsulated in amber. The system map marked twenty-seven 'artificial lungs', giant cans of air being auctioned off via the dark web from the Dubai desert to the basements of Wall Street.
When she tries to release the compressed storm clouds, she triggers the alarm system. Armed drones pop out of banyan tree air roots, dripping corrosive resin from the edges of the blades. The tribal maiden blows her bone flute to summon a swarm of marching ants, and as the wave of insects forms a living firewall, Erin finally sees the system in its entirety-each amber container undulates with baby-sized mechanical lungs attached.
Chapter 4: Reverse Evolution
The final showdown unfolded at the floating atmospheric power station. Erin activated the system's ultimate access and wired her nerves into the climate console. Her hair began to photosynthesize, her skin oozed resin to counteract the missile fuel, and her bones gradually lignified to withstand the drastic changes in air pressure.
As she returns the stolen 30 years of respiration to the rainforest, phoenix wood blossoms from the steel frame beneath her feet, and transmission towers grow true neural networks. The system popped up with a final prompt, “Is it becoming a permanent bio-interface?” The moment she chooses to confirm, all the humans involved in the Breath Black Market begin coughing up leaves.
Eco-Eggs
Five years later, a cluster of Singapore skyscrapers suddenly bloomed en masse, and ferns grew from Wall Street's Stonehenge. Erin appears in the form of a tree tumor on some environmental summit holographic screen, and the chronological projection displays a new warning: 'Atlantic warming respiratory rhythm anomaly, please prepare to receive the blue carbon protocol'
