The Birth of Seren Dipity
The origin story of one lost soul to help save others
As any comic book aficionado knows, every superhero origin story requires three key elements.
The first is trauma. Sarah Divine had thought long and hard about how she wanted to end her life. It was a choice between a razor and pills. She wasn’t sure she would be successful with the former, but with her access to medicine at the hospital, she was confident that a cocktail of chemicals would do the job. If it was good enough for rockstars and actors, it would suffice for a nurse nobody noticed. Still, she used the blade, too. Everyone loves a trier, right?
The second element is energy. Whether cosmological, Technological, or biological, the source doesn’t matter - superheroes gain their powers by exposure to an energy greater than themselves. Sarah Divine never enjoyed physics; in fact, she hated it. She’d certainly never heard of a temporal electromagnetic planetary flip.
The third and final element is chance – that extemporaneous, fortuitous happenstance of situation and time that fuses personal trauma with a momentous force of energy, forever altering the individual.
And so it was that Sarah Divine, a lost and broken soul, in a moment of desperation swallowed a mixture of chemicals and at the exact instant a geophysical tremor in the Earth’s electromagnetic field. At that moment, she was reborn as Seren Dipity – a superhero with the power to heal mental pain. Seren can hear and feel the mental anguish of others, and with the gentle touch only a nurse could possess, she can heal it. She is a superhero we can all call upon when the negative voices in our heads become too much.
If you need her, she’ll find you. She’ll hear your pain. She will come to your side.
