The Terror Hotel is another name for The Backrooms Level 5. It is UNSAFE, SECURE, and has a LOW ENTITY COUNT. It has a survival difficulty rating of CLASS 2, and it is UNSAFE. Level 5 is a vast hotel complex with numerous rooms and hallways. Early 20th-century decorations and furnishings are all over Level 5's surroundings. The strange noises that can be heard on Level 5 are notorious and add to its mystique. For example, the chatter of a far-off party that can be heard through walls.

Greetings, old chap. Those last few levels of The Backrooms have really been taking a toll on your health, happiness, and sanity, eh? You seem tired, perhaps ready to finally take the weight off your feet. Though really, what did you anticipate when you chose to travel to this multi-leveled hell near Earth? Of course, we are not here to pass judgment.
We are only here to assist you in your journey and to chronicle every step of it, so where is the fun in that? And because that's exactly what you'll find here, we sincerely hope you're prepared for some warm, traditional hospitality. Greetings from Level 5 of The Terror Hotel. As soon as you enter the main hall, your senses are caressed by a hazy scent of lavender-scented air freshener and the low, steady hum of smooth jazz.

The other Backrooms levels have been openly hostile, or at the very least unwelcoming, to human presence, but something about this place just seems to invite you in. How could something that is, in theory, so incredibly relaxing also be so oddly terrifying? It is designed to appear to be a posh hotel from the 1920s or 1930s, possibly from the early 20th century. The Stanley Hotel, a century-old hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, which served as the inspiration for Stephen King's novel The Shining, and other half-formed memories of places you are unsure you ever visited as a child also come to mind.

Furthermore, anything that conjures up images of the Shining Overlook Hotel is likely to be unfavorable. You therefore proceed with caution, aware that there may be danger at any moment. Even though you like smooth jazz, every now and then you start to wonder if there's something else going on beneath the lovely piano and saxophone. Whispers that are incomprehensible in a language that is both familiar and foreign, your gaze is drawn to the wall-mounted oil paintings. Every portrait in the backrooms is of someone who you can only assume has died in the past.

For a fleeting second, you wonder if the paintings' eyes are on you. This would be a crazy idea anywhere else, but in the backrooms, anything is conceivable. You may notice that the whispers behind the never-ending flow of smooth jazz occasionally seem to get louder or quieter as you move through the ornate halls of the hotel, marked by fine mahogany furniture, Turkish rugs on hardwood floors, and beautiful vases brimming with flowers that should surely be long-dead by now, right? It is immaculate, free of dust and smudges, and appears to be maintained constantly by an invisible cleaning crew.

When you feel someone tap you on the shoulder, you almost feel lulled into a false sense of security. You quickly turn on your heels while yelling awkwardly and stifling. In contrast, the distance behind you is nothing but a long, winding hallway with no one in it. You instinctively move out of the way when something suddenly moves above you. You learned a valuable lesson from the backrooms: always be alert. It's also a good thing because a female deathmoth is the creature fluttering above you.

You recall the Major Explorers Group members telling you about these creatures on other levels, and you inferred—quite correctly, we might add—that they have a hive or nest on this level. The males of the species are essentially harmless, whereas the females are unquestionably not, even though behavior can vary from specimen to specimen when it comes to deathmoths. The liquid seeping from a nearby crack also has a recognizable nutty smell.

You discover with great relief after taking a sip that its almond water. Almond water, which is delicious and reviving, is flowing through the pipes. You fill a canteen with beverages before entering the boiler room further. However, there is suddenly a light in the distance as you descend deeper. You persevere through the heat until you arrive, panting and perspiring from the intensity. After that, nothing will ever be the same again. As we continue to explore the backrooms in greater detail, be sure to stay tuned. How much deeper is this liminal abyss?
