The first time Vinnie knew he was different was when he was 7.
Drawing was always Vinnie's specialty, one night he drew a small UFO, a perfectly circular disc with a bubble atop the centre. Inside was an alien waving, as the ship was beaming up a sheep - he thought a person would be difficult, and a horse or cow seemed too big. The very next day, Vinnie was out on a walk with his family, in the distance, off to his right over a field, Vinnie saw the exact same UFO he'd drawn the day before, and it was beaming up a sheep.
Four whole years later, almost having forgotten the mysterious circumstances of the UFO, Vinnie drew a viking ship with axe-bearing, helmet-wearing vikings shouting expletives. The following day, Vinnie went to the beach with his parents, and what did he see? You guessed it, the very same ship with the same lion's head prow - don't ask why he chose a lion, he just thought it looked cool - and the very same vikings.
He kept practicing his ability, always careful about what he drew, he could never show off his art. The anomalies always happened around him, but no one ever connected them with him. In fact, a lot of people didn't believe The Artist was real, it was a myth, a theory, a conspiracy that he even existed. How could anyone prove it without him showing what he could do? Even then people would think it was staged. So he stayed quiet, he “solved” crimes. He'd drawn bank robbers being arrested, and even missing persons being found. Vinnie didn't think of himself as a traditional superhero, with no public presence and no proof he existed, but he saved lives and that's all that mattered.

I currently work as a thatcher, but love the art of writing a narrative, currently I am working on putting my ideas onto paper and creating a book. In the meantime I create short stories to keep myself, fiancée and two dogs entertained.

Oh i so love Vinnie. my kind of guy. Would be nice if you introduced us. What, he would be like forty something now. Wish that was me, seriously. Could make the world do my bidding.
Love the idea of art coming literally to life in the hands of a child Liam, and “He'd drawn bank robbers being arrested, and even missing persons being found.” is such an intriguing part. Instead of creating, he’s influencing real-life events, or changing them. That’s some power 🙌🏽
This is so clever! I want a full blown comic strip about The Artist. What a fantastic concept and story, Liam.
Oh wow, Liam. Dharrsh gave me a nudge towards this story, as mine bares a striking resemblence to it. Mine is not as nice and pleasant as yours though. Funny we had similar thoughts for the challenge! Well done on a great story that has a nice wholesome feel, as Donna said, that goes against the grain of the many dark ones for the challenge (all of my entries are dark lol and even one that is not dark, I'm planning, is desperately sad!)
I'd love this power but I'm so far from an artist it would easily be traced back to me!! 🤣 Love this idea for the epic beginnings challenge though, such a wholesome story in contract to a lot of the very dark entries! Great work, Liam!
Such a great little story!
With great power comes great responsibility! I love how you had the child Vinnie not even know what he was capable of, putting it down to 'wow, so aliens are real' but then experimenting as he grew older. Exactly what a child would do! I mean, there's no reason to suspect that he was in any way magical. Have to agree with Dharr though XD probably would have Pygmalioned myself rather than trying to save the world XD
Doing good on the quiet. I loved the idea of this, a proper unsung hero!
Whoaaaa, Vinnie is such a decent human being. You don't wanna know what I'd draw if I had his powers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Loved your story!
