Spacewalker
An entry for the Epic Beginnings Challenge
A spacewalk, that's what they named it when space was first ventured to and explored. People now lived on spaceships, but the name spacewalk had still stuck whenever someone went out.
There was no tethering anymore, suits were much less clunky, almost skin tight and had directional propulsion with almost unlimited range, harnessing solar rays for energy, which were much stronger when there was no atmosphere to block it.
Ra'ul was spacewalking, not for work, but for pleasure. He had been advised not to, in fact he'd been threatened not to, but he chose to ignore his superiors. His namesake was an ancient God of the sun, and he had a plan to test himself.
Ra'ul was smart, smarter than most, and had adapted his suit to make it work better for him. Whilst out on a spacewalk, he was able to deactivate his Breathable Helmet Mask (BHM), the lack of oxygen would kill him in 15 seconds unless he reactivated it. That gave him plenty of time to carry out his plan.
Canis is an observation station, built specifically to withstand the force of a supernova from 60 light years away. Today was the day that the blast would reach the station.
Ra'ul saw it coming, chasing across the empty space like a thundering, crashing, fiery tidal wave. It hit him with full force. He deactivated and reactivated his BHM in the space of a second, as he was blasted backwards towards Canis Station.
He could feel it, sense it, this energy swirling in his suit followed shortly by silence and darkness.
A bright light, two bright lights. His eyes opened, and settled on his hands, which flared, pulsing with power as he smiled to himself… Soon he would show the Universe who he truly was.
About the Creator
Liam Storm
I currently work as a thatcher, but love the art of writing a narrative, currently I am working on putting my ideas onto paper and creating a book. In the meantime I create short stories to keep myself, fiancée and two dogs entertained.

It’s all laid out in such a short space of words, and the set up here is done well. Reminds me of “Solaris Rising” by Randy Baker- his entry for the challenge. Would be interesting seeing those two face off! I struggled to come up with ideas for this one, so nice job here, and good luck in the challenge Liam🤗
Oh damn! This is wicked good! Birth of a sun god hero. Or...could he be a villain??? I like the mystery there. Still to be determined.
A very enticing origin story! Great work Liam!
I hope he's a power for good. A great origin tale, Liam.
Oooo, that was soooo cool! Would you be showing us how Ra'ul uses his powers?
The sun god returns! Great take on the challenge, Liam.
