She was born into an intellectual family in England, and at a very young age, she developed a bold character of "doing what she likes". At 16 years old, she suddenly became obsessed with dance, and she resolutely interrupted her studies and joined a dance company as a dancer. Soon after, she became interested in modeling because she had seen several famous models perform. But soon, not willing to be lonely, she was again attracted to the circus of all kinds of adventurous performances in the past, after a little-known bump in the road, she joined a circus as she wished, happy, comfortable with the performance of the hoop, idling and other thrilling programs. In her spare time, she also explored the Grand Canyon and went diving on distant seas. In this way, she was able to do one thing that she loved.
At the age of 22, she quietly entered the University of London and majored in medicine, hoping that she would be able to relieve the pain of others, just like her mother, who was a doctor. Later, she became an attending physician, as she had hoped. Then, young, beautiful, and capable, she became the director of the largest health care service company in the UK, earning more than 100,000 pounds a year. With a thriving career and a carefree life, she became the enviable darling of fate.
However, a visit to Afghanistan in 2008 instantly changed the course of her life. In Kabul and its surrounding areas, she went into those original villages with rich ancient style, into those small woods that stood firm amid drought and barrenness, and also into those low tents, 'witnessed the women wounded by human bombs, the children suffering from diseases that made them thin and embarrassing, saw those helpless eyes and heard those moans of pain ...... It turned out that there were so many people in need of care in that beautiful land. And she, as if she had heard the fervent call from the depths of her life, decided in just a moment to stay in that land where love needed to be sown.
Always cheerful and optimistic, she wrote calmly on her blog, "As if driven by the gods of fate, I immediately decided to stay and heal those unfortunate people and give everything to improve their situation."
In 2009, she followed a humanitarian relief team to a poverty-stricken mountainous region in northern Afghanistan. In that devastated land, she and her teammates spread their love everywhere, leaving her happy and busy figure everywhere: helping a grandmother with eye disease find her sight', helping a pregnant woman in labor to have a safe mother and child, allowing children with the flu to play happily again ...... She traveled around raising money, building clinics, organizing airlifts and distributing medicine, and establishing charities. She travels to raise money, build clinics, organize airlifts and distribute medicine, set up the charity Bridge to Afghanistan, and make documentaries to show the world the suffering of Afghan women. ...... She is often operating one minute and running to another rescue site a minute later.
She never talks about doctrine or religion, she only brings healing and medicine, and only brings comfort to the soul. She was ashamed to be praised as an "angel of love" and a "great giver", "I just do what I want to do, and it's fun to help people." This was her simple wish and the main reason why she risked her life to stay there.
Her parents were especially worried about her well-being and urged her time and again to hurry back home; her boyfriend, the Smith, who loved her dearly, had also set a wedding date with her. However, there are still so many people and so many things to hold her, so she can't bear to leave. She wanted to do a little more, to help one more person. She has said, "Strangely enough, the people here, like my relatives, make me want to protect them despite everything."
On August 6, 2010, she and her teammates completed a medical aid mission in Badakhshan province, and on their way back to the capital Kabul, they were attacked by a group of Taliban militants, and she was brutally killed.
The blood of an angel, spilled on the land she loved so much, and her pure smile was framed as a monument of love.
Her name is Karen Wu, a beautiful girl with pure love, walking on earth, life blooming gorgeous as a flower, life withered so saddening. It is believed that the fragrant soul that will not be dispersed will always reside in her beloved mountains and waters and countless hearts.
