Peter Parker woke with a start. Another nightmare, always the same. The night his uncle died, shot down in that alley because Peter failed to stop the thief. It had been a year but the guilt still weighed heavily on him. Swinging his legs over the side of the bed, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes and checked the time. 7am on a Saturday, he could afford to sleep in a bit more. But he knew sleep would not come easily now.

Getting dressed, Peter decided to go for a long swing around the city to clear his head. Maybe he'd find some small crime to stop along the way, help take his mind off things. After a quick breakfast, he suited up in his Spiderman costume. The familiar red and blue fabric never failed to lift his spirits, even on dark days like this. From his bedroom window, he shot a web and launched himself into the sky.

The feeling of soaring between the skyscrapers never got old. Up here, the problems below seemed small and he felt free. Spiderman swung for over an hour, enjoying the sunrise over New York. As the morning traffic started to pick up below, he heard the first signs of trouble. Sirens blaring in the distance, no doubt heading for a robbery or car chase. He altered his path to intercept, hoping for a distraction.

Spiderman landed on a nearby rooftop just in time to see two police cars screech around the corner in pursuit of a black sedan. Leaping into action, he shot a web to swing down in front of the speeding car. It swerved violently to avoid him, losing control and crashing into a lamppost. Two men tumbled out, dazed but reaching for their guns. Spiderman shot twin streams of webbing, disarming them before they could fire a shot.

"Nice try boys, but your joyride is over." He quipped. The police pulled up and arrested the would-be thieves, thanking Spiderman for the assist. Feeling a bit better, he swung off in search of more adventure. The morning passed uneventfully as he patrolled, stopping the occasional mugging or break-in. By midday, his stomach was growling so he swung down to his favorite deli for a late lunch.

As Peter sat eating his sandwich, the news report on the radio caught his attention. "This just in, reports of an armed robbery in progress at the First National Bank downtown. The thieves are heavily armed and have taken hostages. Police are on scene but unable to get close without risking lives. Citizens are advised to avoid the area."

Peter didn't hesitate, shoving the last of his food in his mouth as he pulled his mask back on. In moments, Spiderman was swinging through the city as fast as his webs could carry him. When he arrived at the bank, police had the block cordoned off. Gunshots rang out from inside as the thieves grew impatient. He swung up to the roof, peering through the skylight down into the chaos below.

Four men with masks and assault rifles were pacing the lobby, yelling demands into their phones as terrified hostages cowered on the floor. Spiderman took a breath to steady his nerves. One wrong move and someone could die. Carefully, silently, he lowered himself through the skylight behind the thieves. Webbing shot from his wrists, disarming two men before they knew what hit them.

The others spun around firing wildly. Spiderman dodged with inhuman agility, sticking the guns to the walls. A well-placed kick here, a punch there and the thieves were down. Untying the hostages, he quipped "Alright folks, show's over. Time to go home to your families." As the police rushed in to arrest the criminals, the hostages cheered for their heroic savior. Spiderman slipped away unseen, feeling the familiar thrill of a job well done.

The afternoon passed uneventfully as he finished his patrol. By evening, the excitement had worn off and Peter was tired. He decided to grab some takeout and head home to relax. As he changed out of the costume, his phone buzzed with a message. "Good work today Spiderman. The city is grateful for your service. Fisk." Peter frowned at the message from the notorious crime boss. What could he possibly want? He'd have to be extra vigilant, Fisk was not one to be trusted.

Shaking off his unease, Peter grabbed his food and headed home for some well-earned rest. The nightmares did not return as he drifted off to sleep, mind at ease after a productive day spent helping the little people of New York. This is what being Spiderman was all about. Using his powers to protect the innocent, no matter the personal cost. As long as there were people to save, he would continue swinging through the city streets. The Amazing Spiderman was always on patrol.
