Dragon's in Flathead Valley
Chapter 1 There weren’t always dragons in the valley. But there are now. They and their riders came out of the clear blue sky. I will never forget the day they simply appeared. I was coming out of Safeway with my earbuds in. You know we as humans are so obsessed with technology. My audiobook was coming in nice and clear so the world could pass by with its droning buzz. They were just there. A rainbow retinue nearly blotting out the sun.

The Dragon Whistlers
The Dragon Whistlers Chapter 1 'There weren’t always dragons in the Valley'. Now is the time and place for the flying green-eyed wizard huffing puffing, gizzard blizzard, chiseled fire breathing, fizzling dragons to make another entrance... They never went away. My guess is that they will come in disguise but not above where our imagination can look into their eyes and recognize the heroes of yore. I have missed seeing them, in this barren desert. Where are you my friends? My childhood memories yearn for the awkward freedom of imagination".

Mr. Darcy and the Metaverse of Manners
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Sometimes, there were worse. Creatures who had the ability to make one cower on their knees, begging to be left alone. Cruel, vicious creatures that stalked vain recesses of an empty mind, and exploited more naive beings for information. They charmed those they married, but harmed those who did not flatter them. Yes, they were far worse than mere dragons. These shape-shifters moved about in unthreatening forms, masking their venom filled speech with the umbrella of ignorance. They were the mother of all dragons- indeed, they represented the class called the Mother-in-law. Worse still, his own.

The Ceremony
Boom. Boom. "Chay! Chay! Chay!" Boom. Boom. "Chay! Chay! Chay!" In the distance, the drums and chanting echoed in Aelin's ears. Even as he tried to ignore it, it reminded him of a giant creature's heartbeat. Boom. Boom. It began to frighten him. In the tent with his mother, he played quietly with his small figurines. He'd been recently teased for them and their crude design, but as a gift from his grandfather; relics from his youth, Aelin was in constant gratitude owning the gifts. The figurines in question were scale models of great beasts that were said to have roamed the deserts. A yeret made up the larger, a bulk with curves said to be similar to that of a "chimpanzee”. It allegedly walked mostly on its hands, but due to the nature of great desert beasts, was hardly seen during waking hours. The two other toys were different types of hertoj, a massive insectoid creature that supposedly emerged from hidden sand caves built by its design to lay in wait, to rip apart passers-by. If they were living, Aelin would easily control the hertoj in his possession as they were barely larger than his hand.

In the Valley of the Golden Dawn
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They have been there for so long now though, that it is difficult to imagine a time when dawn was greeted with anything other than their percussive trumpeting. And as time is wont to do, it has blurred the edges of history with the delicate but invasive tendrils of legend. Just how did they get there? If you ask a priest of the Draconian Order he will tell you some wildly boring tale about the hand of God descending from Heaven to right the wrongs of man with these conduits of heavenly power. Conduits, it must be pointed out, who have no interest in Heaven or priest, let alone their very aggressive god. If you ask an acolyte from the Society of Flame they’ll tell you a mysterious cosmic event brought with it a pantheon of eggs, birthed by the great Mother on a distant star. Historians from the Eternal Archives can never agree enough to come up with a comprehensive story of their own so people have stopped asking them, despite the fact that they are the only ones with access to the dragons themselves. That is the great crux of finding truth. Facts are never as persuasive as feelings or the beliefs they harness.

The Guardian They Called Auté
There weren't always dragons in the valley. The valley was where our Anglian trees stood. Each tree was a portal to another world. The dragons used to help the Guardians protect the valley from evil and unwelcome travelers. For centuries, they kept us from harm. One day, the Cryptic Queen of Umbrous sent dark spellcasters across the galaxy to eliminate the Guardians. She wanted to harness their power for her own use. The Anglian trees died as the last royal Guardian bloodline was about to be slain. Trapping her minions on the very planets they sought to destroy. The once vibrant, pink leaves faded to grey, leaving nothing behind but a colorless valley of lifeless trees. With nothing left to protect, the dragons roamed Lavvos without purpose until 25 years later when one tree's leaves began glowing again.

The Orb of Vorgon
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Used to be, there was nary a day a small horde wasn’t making their way through the lush, grassy plains en route to Nene or Lardon or any of the other trading ports west of the mountains. The scourge of the flying serpants keeps us huddled in the village these days. It also has us locked in eternal conflict over what to do about it.
