What roamed the Wildes
They said it was ancient. But only the Hesain of old knew just how far back the forest’s creation dawned. It was the kind of place that, once visited, was never forgotten. To the ancient blooded Hesain, it was sacred. To the humans and elven-blooded people of the realm, it was dreaded. Many a wanderer had been lost over the last decades of recorded history. Most only dared venture into the outskirts where it met with the plains of the Outlier horse clans. Mushrooms and other edibles could be foraged there, where it was safer.

Sherlock, Watson and the elusive dragon
Sherlock was bored. All day he had been perusing the papers and nothing interesting jumped from the pages to get him seeing the faintest light of the thrill of the chase. A prelude to a war
The throbbing forest was cleared in a heartbeat as he slowly approached the source of the wailing that had been screeching in his ears for too long. He had not resorted to breathe. Rain has been absent for a while and the forest was dry as bone. Fire is tempting but fire is chaos. His throat swelled up and he could feel his blood boil and the path beneath his feet light up in bright orange, but he kept his mouth sealed tight. Tendrils of smoke spat out from his nostrils and fed smoke to the canopies of trees that weren’t lucky enough to evade his approach. His claws dug deep into the ground as he walked as gently as he could.

Silver Line of Power
A fiery rain poured over my head at sunrise as the field artillery fired from the other side, sending their led balls hurdling towards us. All I wanted was to get out alive. This dreadful war was the worst thing I had gone through. It was worse than when three of my cousins died the same day of cholera. If only the South would just surrender. They were on the path to defeat, why delay the inevitable and cause more death. They called what we were doing ‘Northern aggression,’ but I had called what they were doing land theft. Jefferson Davis was the one who wanted to break off from the union, but maybe Lincoln could make a few concessions, give the South some of their own land in exchange for every slave and draftee on their side being freed. I had no preference as to which side won, I just hated fighting. I was no cowardly deserter though. I had fought gallantly with my honor and integrity intact.
