The Rovim
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley." Alecto had whispered over to me. It was late. The sun had fully descended the horizon and disappeared beneath the sea. Grandfather had instructed us in the appropriate blessings and spells that coincide with nightfall, although he never taught us the words of the sacred language. Alecto and I had secured the entrance to our hut with a large stone, while mother kindled the fire. The Kikelev Isles dipped well below freezing each night. Fully lethal for humans but even elves would succumb if not indoors by nightfall.

Natural Magic Chapter 3
Read Chapter 2 Here Listen to this chapter here Tilli, Sam and Cadolina had been riding on the train for an hour. It had been a tense hour. When they had boarded, Cadolina wanted to look for her friends from Liberty House, but Sam pointed out that they might be taking a later train, since they didn't have to be at school as early as Tilli and Caddie did. And those that were arriving early likely weren't on the train yet. Cadolina had stood in the corridor, on the verge of finding a different car while Sam smiled serenely up at her. Then she rolled her eyes, sat next to the window, and stuck her nose in a book, occasionally peering over the top of it, as if expecting to see her siblings plotting her murder. Sam tried to spark a conversation once or twice, but it fizzled, so they sat in silence, Sam staring at his hands, Cadolina sending both of them nasty looks, and Tilli... wishing desperately for a transportation station.

Serpent Moon
There weren't always dragons in the valley. Winter paused in her digging and frowned, the words tugging at something in her memory. Where had she heard that before? Was it from her mother? Some story told when she was still a child, sitting next to the hearth?

A Bad Kill
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. It mattered little now, but the elders liked to lament that fact. Then again, as far as Harjo could tell, that’s just what elders do; lament the past. 300 years ago, she heard Waketseh preach, before the Year of the Cold Sun, the Four Winds had kept their great sky snakes from straying past the Crying Mountains. Now, slithering along the vaulted tree line of the Forest of a Thousand Hollows, they loomed above all the creatures of the Crooked Sky Valley. Fallen Roots, just as every chief before him, said they served the spirits as punishers; and the chief said it, so it must be true.

The Dragon's Destiny
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Jordyn watched from above as three strangers, dressed in ornate flowing silk robes in a rainbow of colors, strode into the council chamber. He gripped the ceiling joist as he spied. The ancient oak felt familiar under his hands.

The Dragon Throne
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. I would like to tell you someone else was responsible for them overruling the land, but sadly I cannot. For over a hundred years the only unusual thing anyone has ever seen was some missing chickens. One day, Farmer John had a barn full of glorious chickens and the next morning they all vanished. This had nothing to do with me or my mishap. In fact, a few weeks ago I could have easily said that I would never in my life unleash any kind of monsters or beasts upon the Valley. That was a few weeks ago though, I cannot say that is the case now. This is why I’m presently standing before the court of the King and Queen pleading for my life.

The Secret Hiding In The Lake
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Shadow Lane was a very quiet valley with only a few hundred people scattered about. The lake is the spot that the entire village would go to for all the best celebrations. It seemed smaller when walking around the full lake just for a breath of air. Staring across from the celebration spot there was a hidden secret that was peeking out. The lake seemed so much bigger looking out than it looked on the walk around.
