And So Was the Rise of Dragonkind
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Once there had been a time where the path of humankind had meant the destruction of such creatures. Now, where the two-legged beings wandered, dragons followed. There are scholars who would credit the ego of ‘man’ for bringing about the sacred union. With it came power, and that could be manipulated for anything within a person’s imaginings. Wealth. Status. Control. To conquer a beast of such vast, destructive power... well that could only corrupt. However, those – or those who truly know the ones – who have met with dragon-flesh understand the old tales, even with their now twisted wording and translations.

The keeper of the golden key
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Yani was coming back from his late walk around the valley when he heard noise from falling objects inside his home, and his father rumbling around. He began to worry. Deep in the forest, his cottage was hidden among the big, wide oak’s roots, surrounded by bushes and twigs, away from the human eye. The front door was cracked open, and he saw swirling pots and books, and bundles of herbs up and down in the air.

Rise
There weren't always dragons in the valley. We had heard stories from travelers, their homes and families torn apart by the monsters that took their time searching for even the tiniest of humans, seeming to smirk as they slurped every drop of human blood they could consume. We were lucky, up until now.

The Last Son of Godric
"There weren't always dragons in the valley. Did you know that?" Wind howled across the eerily quiet battlefield. Smoke and ash from the destroyed camp settled across the field of bodies from both the rebels and the Imperials. There was the soft sound of dirt shifting underneath my boots as I paced in front of the man kneeling before me. "Dragons first appeared only 20 years ago, about the same time that your leader overthrew the rightful king, General Grey." I stopped my pacing to look at his face, hair matted to his head with dried blood, and knelt next to him and directed his gaze to the valley below us. "Do you see that bend in the river? There was a town there, 20 years ago. That was my home. I still remember the day that a shadow swept across the it, followed by the heat of dragon fire. I still remember the screams of every person that I knew being burnt alive. The miller, his daughter, and I made our way to the capitol, barely alive, surviving off of whatever scraps we could find. We weren't the only refugees carrying word of dragons, but your so-called king did nothing."

Lot
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. But with the slow decay of the once mighty civilization, something powerful had to fill the void. A pale full moon lights the midnight sky, illuminating the world below. A soft breeze blows, tickling the tongues of the flames that slowly engulf the village. The warm glow of the flame and the white light of the moon soothes the city into accepting its fate. It’s almost peaceful watching this God forsaken city return to hell where it belongs. Almost.

Amethyst Eyes

The Dragons Return
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Growing up we were taught that they had all disappeared a long time ago. These creatures were considered to be pure because they did not hoard gold or treasure as most would believe, but they would only associate themselves with people that were pure in heart. They had this ability that allowed them to look at a person and see who that person truly was. You can fool others into believing you're a good person or look like trouble but dragons could never be fooled.
