Fishing With Larry, Contemplating The Infinitesimal Void
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. At least that's what the historians like to say. Actually, there had always been dragons in the Valley. Everybody knows that. It was literally called "The Valley Of The Dragons" for decades until we got semantically lazy and abbreviated every damn thing we possibly could, settling on just “The Valley”.

Dragon Masters
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. And I used to be able to enjoy a lunch outside without my fries being stolen by one either, but here we are. I tried to swat away the little thief, but the winged lizard kept nipping at my hand. Exasperated, I pulled off a chunk of my beef wrap and tossed it into the grass of the quad. The yellow spotted dragon attempting to steal my whole lunch, launched itself after it. I picked up the remainder of my lunch and fled the scene. You’re not supposed to feed wild animals, but I just wanted to be left alone. Who ever that thing pesters next, I’m sorry.

Crown of Flesh and Flame
“There weren’t always dragons in the Valley.” I try my hardest not to roll my eyes at the puppet master's statement as he begins his play. Little did the puppet master know there have always been dragons in the Valley, they just didn’t make their presence known until fifty years ago. That fateful day of the Blood Moon celebration marked the largest death count the Valley has ever seen. I wasn’t yet born but everyone is taught the history of the Battle of the Blood Moon. It was the night the dragons came and laid siege to the Valley. As history is told, there were no survivors, and yet, there is every recollection of what happened that night. Makes you wonder whom the history was mouthed from.

Downscaled
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Everyone, especially Bertha "Bertie" Winters, agreed that it was all former Mayor Greene's fault. While Bertie did owe her very nice cottage to the Stone Valley Retirement Community, she laid the blame for having to replace the thatch roof - three times so far - squarely on the Mayor's doorstep. Some argued that the idea of getting a tax break for the struggling town for agreeing to host a "community for those over sixty years old" and not checking the fine print was an understandable mistake, but Bertie wasn't having it. What kind of ninny didn't read the fine print? She had no less than four magnifying glasses herself.

The Era of Fate
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Tales speak of a time when they may once have roamed the plains freely, a time before the Valley had cracked its way across the plains and the land was morphed into something new; but those stories had faded with time until truth had become the brethren of uncertainty and dragons had drifted from the sky.

The Dragon's Curse
“There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They survive best in hot, dry places, with the sun beating down on them and only a rare sprinkling of water to keep them alive. Too much shade, too much water, and they bloat and mush, becoming useless to anyone.”

Dragon Keeper
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. After generations of relearning and practicing the old ways to bring the magic back into the land, they had returned. The land overflowed with abundance again and magic was practiced freely. When the dragons left us, we knew that as a people, we had made a huge mistake. A mistake that, instead of being rectified, continued for generations. Because of our mistake, the magic the dragons needed to survive slowly leached away and evil was allowed to seep in, ravaging our lands, and taking up residence in the hearts of our closest friends and loved ones. It seemed like very few were able to resist the new evil. As time went on, we lost ourselves, our traditions, and some even lost their lives. That was the darkest time in our history. Now that the dragons have returned to us willing to nurture and protect us, we hope to stay on our now enlightened path and never return to the darkness.

Mysteries of Blood
There weren’t always Dragons in the Valley. At least, that’s what I was told. In reality, I don’t ever remember a time when the Dragons weren’t in the Valley—such a thing was a natural part of life, just as breathing or eating was an inevitable part of existing.

Breaking News: Oil Prices Soar
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. But then again, there weren’t always self-driving cars or even cell phones for that matter. It wasn’t like this was unprecedented. It was more like a long time coming. The way that things were going, it wasn’t a surprise that we were thrown back in time. With the discovery of new tech, it was bound to happen. I mean, if you think about it, it was as if they wanted this to happen. All my life, playing games online and watching films about it, there were always hints to opening “star gates” or “worm holes”. People called this the “Desensitizing of the masses”. So that when it happens, people wouldn’t be so afraid.
