A Short Story: Anjou & Penelope’s Great Adventure
It had been three nights since Anjou and Penelope left Lychee Park. They were in the depths of Elven Forest making their journey to Indigo Woods. From there it would be one moon till they reached Larkspur Falls. As they ventured deeper and deeper into the forest Anjou knew not that the Twiddle Brigade and Pine Titans were marching on the forest from the west, but Penelope had an eerie feeling.

Anjou and Penelope sailed the course of the river for two moons; only stopping occasionally alongside the riverbank to gather berries and nuts to eat. As they floated down the river Anjou entertained Penelope with grand woodland fairy folklore. When Anjou was not recounting tales told to him as a young woodland fairy, Penelope would share about the history and organelle evolution of floras to which Anjou found most fascinating. Conversation and laughter filled their days and nights. One day when the waters were particularly calm, Anjou guided Penelope in steering the boat and found her closeness most satisfying; never had Anjou enjoyed someone’s presence and nearness as much as he did Penelope’s.

Anjou and Penelope awoke the next day as the sunlight poured into the cavern. Before starting down the pathway to the cavern outlet they ate some of the berries and nuts Anjou had foraged the day before and drank water from his canteen till their appetites were sated. As they started on their way through the cavern Penelope asked Anjou to tell her again what Zinnia was like as she could hardly wait to get there. Never tiring of telling Penelope stories, Anjou began to describe Zinnia starting first with Penelope’s favorite part, the lustrous flowers native to Zinnia.
