A Short Story: Raksha Green Peaks
One day as Raksha was wandering through the Wahala Alps she overheard the elders speaking to her father and mother. The elders were displeased with Raksha's adventurous spirit, which often led her away from Wahala Alps. Shami expressed to the elders that Raksha was only thirteen and adventure and folly are stored in the heart of a child, but the elders insisted that Raksha was more than a child, she was the future leader of the Mammoth Tribe. The discourse between Shami and the elders continued as Raya sat silently praying internally. "Raya what say ye?" one of the elders called out and then everyone went silent as Raya had yet to speak. "You spoke of Raksha's adventurous spirit Elder Zahir, does not God reign over the spirit as well as the body and mind?" Raya spoke into the stillness and the elders sighed heavily, unable to refute her rhetorical question. Raya allowed the silence to linger a bit, before continuing. "You all have brought your concerns to Shami, and he has spoken, yet you quarrel and refuse him and deny Raksha her adolescence. Shami was chosen by you to lead and protect the Mammoth Tribe, do you no longer trust your own choices?" Raya asked solemnly as she looked into each elder's eyes. "Shami has spoken, and his word shall stand," Raya said as she delicately grabbed Shami's hand and stood up leading him to his feet as well. "Peace be with you all," Shami said and then went away from the elders with Raya.

A Short Story: Raksha Green Peaks
Winter had left and now was the time of spring. The scent of jasmine and rose faintly scented the air. Raksha followed the sweet fragrance to the base of the Wahala Alps and then set off down a path in the grasslands in search of the flowers responsible for the sweet fragrance. Raksha ventured deep within the grasslands and did not stop until her nose rested against the flower carrying the sweet fragrance. As Raksha was savoring the scent of the flower she heard the crackling of a twig breaking underfoot and knew someone was near. Swiftly yet quietly Raksha hid amongst the brush and peered out to see who was coming. A few trices later, to Raksha's surprise, a young boy who was around her age, perhaps a year or two older appeared.

The next morning Raksha arose early, completed her chores, tended the garden, and then rushed to the base of Wahala Alps to greet Zuber. Raksha found Zuber waiting for her at the base of the mountain just as he said he would be. "I've never been this close to the mountain range before, it's more beautiful up close," Zuber said with a smile as he stared up at the seven lush grassy green peaks. "Come, I'll show you around, but we have to stay on the outskirts," Raksha said as she led Zuber on a tour of the Wahala Alps. "Why do we have to stay on the outskirts?" "Because I do not want the elders or any of the tribespeople to see you." "Ashamed of me?" Zuber asked with a half chuckle, "No, it's just the elders and the tribespeople would not welcome you; they don't like strangers" Raksha said emphatically and then began to show Zuber around the outskirts of the mountain range. As Raksha led Zuber around the highlands she recounted all her ventures and the secret cavern spaces with the carvings and paintings she had discovered. Zuber listened intently to Raksha as he found her to be a great storyteller.

Under the muggy fog cover of dawn, Raksha ventured out to the grasslands to meet Zuber. Patiently Raksha waited for Zuber, but he never came as they had agreed the day before. The next morning Raksha went back to the grasslands, but again Zuber was not there to greet her when she arrived, nor did he come within the hours she waited for him. Three weeks went by, and Zuber was nowhere to be found. Each day that passed Raksha rattled her brain with where he could be, and if he were all right. Zuber was the first friend Raksha had ever had, and to band together with him so quickly in folly and jest and then to lose him so quickly was heart-wrenching. Raksha knew not when she would see Zuber again, all she knew was that he had left her in the same manner as he had found her.
