The Light Protector
Claire snuggled into bed as her mother tucked her in. The dim glow of the nightlight and the warmth of the blankets cocooned around her gently lulled her to sleep. Her eyes drooped but instantly snapped open again as she heard a soft humming sound. She blinked, and in the shadows, she saw a flying insect at the window. It had large orangey-brown wings with black spots, and it kept flying at the window, as if trying to attack the light within,

Eli the Elephant
It was a hot day in the African landscape and all Eli wanted was a drink of water. So he walked on down to the local watering hole which wasn’t easy for Eli because he was a big, fat and round mammal. His skin was a grayish color and got easily dried out, so occasionally he rolled around in the water when no one else was around. Today was especially hot so Eli dreaded having to walk to the watering hole because it was right in the sun so his skin would be extra dry. Still though he made his way down to get a drink of the cool water.

Love Bug. Content Warning.
Sunlight shone against a wall of bulbous black clouds. It's light reflected through the white laced curtains mam had left open; along with the window to release the thick heat that suffocated the whole room. A warm breeze wafted in scents from the main house. Gumbo and boiled crab mingled with rich perfumes and spicy musk alerting that the guests were arriving and that stomachs were hungry. A trumpet broke the quiet as a musician began to tune his instrument then the rest of the band joined in. The sound breaking the trance that had been holding Bee.

A Taste of Our Own Medicine
When humans were first introduced to this Earth, they always acted on impulse. Without hesitation, they saw something they wanted and they took it. If they wanted to eat something, they ate it without regard to the consequences. If they set their sights on the wrong thing - a poisonous mushroom or berry, for instance - they paid the price. They didn't pay any attention to the existing supply of what they wanted; whether there was only one or there were one million of their target, they claimed it for their own benefit. Instinct was everything. Nothing interfered with their determination, their persistence, their grit.

Long ago, when the Earth was young, and the pantheon of gods still shaped the world, there were no colors. The world was a canvas of simple white, and the gods inhabited the golden realm of Asgard, gazing upon the colorless land with longing. Every aspect of Earth was pristine and blank, the soil, the trees, the skies, and even the vast oceans, all shared the same monotone hue.

Flamingo Pink
Long ago, flamingos were a vibrant shade of white. They were gorgeous then - as they are now as well. They also weren't so social back then. In fact, we could go so far as to call them stuck-up. Prissy. Snooty. That kinda deal. They didn't wanna mix with "bad" company, and most other animals - and other flamingos - didn't wanna mix with them either!
