The festival of Vikram Navratri was being celebrated with great pomp and debate was going on a planet every day. The last day's debate was about Shani (an Indian God). The Brahmin (Priest) explained his greatness including the powers of Shani God and his role in maintaining righteousness on earth. In the ceremony, the Brahmin (Priest) also said that according to Vikram's birth chart, there is Shani's entry into his twelfth house, which is considered the worst. But Vikram was not satisfied. He saw Shani as mere, who had troubled his father (Surya), Guru (Jupiter). So, Vikram said that he was not ready to accept Shani as worthy of worship.

Vikram was very proud of his powers, especially of being the favour of his Mother Goddess. When he declined the worship of Shani in front of the assembly of Navratri celebrations, Lord Shani became enraged. He challenges Vikram that he will force Vikram to do his worship. As Shani disappeared into the sky, Vikram said that it was his luck and he had everyone's blessings to face any challenge.

Vikram concludes that what the Brahmin had told about his horoscope may be true. But they were not ready to accept the greatness of Shani. Vikram resolutely said that "whatever is to be, will happen and whatever is not to be, it will not happen" and he said that he accepts Shani's challenge. One day a horse seller came to his palace and said that there is no one in Vikram's kingdom to buy his horse. The horse had amazing characteristics - which in one jump reached the sky, and in another it reached the earth. Thus, one can fly or ride on earth. Vikram did not believe him, so he said that before paying the price of the horse, he would ride and see. The seller agreed to this and Vikram sat on the horse and made the horse run.

According to the seller, the horse took them to the sky. The horse should have come to the ground in the second jump, but it did not. Instead, he drove Vikram some distance away and threw him in the forest. Vikram got injured and tried to find a way back. He said that it was all his luck, nothing else could be there other than this. They failed to recognize Shani as the seller of the horse. While they were trying to find a way in the forest, a group of bandits attacked them. They robbed all their ornaments and beat them severely. Even then, without getting distracted from the situation, Vikram started saying that the bandits had only taken his crown, not his head. While walking they reached the bank of a river for water. The slippery landmass brought them into the water and the strong current dragged them far.

Somehow slowly Vikram reached a town and sat hungry under a tree. Right in front of the tree under which Vikram was sitting was the shop of a miserly shopkeeper. From the day Vikram sat under that tree, the sales in the shop increased a lot. The shopkeeper in greed thought that having this person outside the shop earns so much money and decided to invite Vikram to the house and serve him food. In the hope of a prolonged increase in sales, he asked his daughter to marry Vikram. After the meal when Vikram was sleeping in the room, the daughter entered the room. She waited for Vikram to wake up near the bed. Slowly she also started falling asleep. she took off his ornaments and hung them on a nail with a picture of a duck. She fell asleep. Upon waking up, Vikram saw that Chitra's duck was swallowing his ornaments. While he was still remembering the scene he had seen, the shopkeeper's daughter wakes up and finds her jewelry missing. She called her father and said that Vikram is a thief. father and said that Vikram is a thief.

Vikram was taken to the king there. The king decided to cut off Vikram's arms and legs and leave them in the desert. When Vikram was unable to walk in the desert and was covered in blood, a woman returning from her maternal home in Ujjain saw and recognized him. She inquired about their condition and told that the residents of Ujjain were very worried about their disappearance after riding. She requests her in-laws to give him a place in their house and they keep him in their house. Her family members were of the working class. Vikram asks them for some work. He says that he will monitor the fields and hank so that the bulls make rounds separating the grain. He doesn't want to stay as mere guests forever.

One evening while Vikram was working, a candle is extinguished by the wind. He sings lamp raga song) and light candles. With this the candles of the whole city are lit - the princess of the city had promised that they would marry a person who would be able to light a candle by singing a lamp raga. She is surprised to see the handicapped man as the source of music, but decides to marry him nonetheless. When the king sees Vikram, he is furious to remember that earlier he was accused of theft and now he is trying to marry his daughter. They take out their sword to behead Vikram.

At that time Vikram realizes that all this is happening to him because of Shani's powers. Before his death he prays to Shani. They admit their mistakes and agree that they had a lot of pride because of their status. Shani appears and returns them his ornaments, hands, feet and everything. Vikram requests Shani not to inflict the same pain on the common man as he is right. He says that a person as strong as him may bear pain, but ordinary people will not be able to bear it. Shani agrees with his point and says that he will not do this at all. The king, recognizing his emperor, surrenders to him and agrees to get his daughter married to him. At the same time, the shopkeeper runs to the palace and says that the duck has spewed back the ornaments from its mouth. He also entrusts his daughter to the king. Vikram returns to Ujjain and lives as a great emperor with the blessings of Shani.
