Smoking Bullets

The origin story of Sage Smith A.K.A. Dark Fume

By Dylan Published about a year ago 1 min read

It's a late night for the Smith family, sitting around the campfire without a word.

In the past few weeks, children all over the world have been acquiring superpowers at random, without control.

Recently, seven-year-old Bobby Jones from down the street burst into flames, burning down his house and killing his parents. On the news this morning, a four-year-old boy threw a temper tantrum and totaled half of San Francisco with a 9.2 magnitude earthquake.

Eight-year-old Sage Smith has been smoking all day. Not inhaling fumes from a cigarette but smoking as if he was on fire. Thick, dark black smoke ascended from his skin and dissipated almost immediately. It appears as though it's a part of his body.

The Smiths are perplexed; this is their first time seeing something like this. Superpowers!?! Its existence is crazy enough, let alone in their son. What can they do? Even if they dialed 911, they wouldn't get through during this worldwide superhuman crisis.

Helicopters are swarming the skies, gunfire echoes throughout the city, and people scream in terror. The leaders of the world have decided to eliminate the potential for disaster by killing all super-abled children.

Military men surround the Smiths.

"What's the meaning of this?!?" Mr. Smith shouts.

The soldiers aim at Sage, "Target acquired; permission to execute?"

"NOOOO!!!!" Mrs. Smith screams at the soldiers, "That's my son!!!"

Gunshots sound. Sage's parents scream in peril.

The bullets passed through Sage's smoking body and into his parents, killing them immediately.

The soldier who took the shots stands frozen in fear. Sage reaches into the soldier's chest and rips out his heart. The other soldiers unload, but it's no use; the bullets fly right through Sage's body. Taking vengeance for his parents, Sage kills all the soldiers, and the world falls into turmoil.
