Short story #1

Flower Crown

I remember that day, She wore a crown of marigolds that she had stolen from the sun kissed fields where we lay. She fiddled with the tall grass smiling slyly over her shoulder as laughter escaped her lips. Her chipped nails were orange. Matching the vibrant landscape. It was all sunshine. She was sunshine.

It’s starting to sprinkle as I sit by myself reminiscing of her youth. It was all grey now. The sky, the grass. Even the maragold crown in my hands has seemed to lose their hue. I longed for her return. For the sunshine to emerge once more but I was met with more wet drops from the sky as it started to pour. I clutched the crown to my chest as I ran to the trees. I tripped at one point. Flattening the flowers into a puddle. It’s petals falling off as I quickly snatched it out of the water.

“No - No!” I muttered to myself cursing my weak bones. The dried petals were now soaked once more and started to peel and shatter. “This is all I have please,” I begged but the water was unforgiving. Nature wanted to take it’s beauty back and it did. Till the crown was nothing more than a string.

Oh if the sunshine could see what would happen to her. If only she could have savored the moment a little longer. If she hadn’t plucked those maragold’s maybe they would have lived to see another day. Instead they withered dead as I finally sought shelter under a tree.

Authors note: This was going to be for the short story competition but I didn’t want to spend the money to enter. I figured that it would be fun to do the prompt anyway. Anyhow I hope you enjoyed the short paragraph regardless and have a wonderful day. I am going to be posting more short works soon including an incomplete romance story that I was doing for another contest that I didn’t finish in time.

Short story two:

Midnight snacks

“I wish life was as easy shopping for snacks at eight at night.” The grocery store was bordering on empty. Sam grabbed a bag of chips from a shelf. There was little food in the cart. You could tell Sam was a night person. He had a stupid grin on his face and had gotten obnoxiously loud and dramatic. Something Raphael had never seen before.

“You know it's just a matter of perspective.” Raphael leaned on the shopping cart. “If you look at everything as a challenge you’ll never have fun with it.” Sam smirk melted into a frown. The glitter in his eyes seemed to dissipate.

“Easier said than done…” Sam whispered the words before forcefully smiling and throwing the chips into the cart rather violently. Raphael smiled nervously and ignored the comment.

“Your going to ruin the chips that way”

“Too bad” Sam's face fell into a frown but Sam’s joy slowly returned by the time they got to the checkout. He was practically skipping to the car. “The night is beautiful. I wish it could always stay this way.” Sam laughed.

To Sam the night represented freedom. A time where nothing needed to get done.

Where no one would tell him to do anything. The darkness was his comfort. That’s why he never slept. He never wanted to. There was too many things that he could do. That he needed to do. It prevented himself from getting overwhelmed during the day.

“It really is nice.”

Sam was dramatic to say the least. One moment he was all smiles and laughter and he was beautiful. The next he seemed to disappear. It was a bit unnerving. It seemed Sam’s mood once it was kicked down it seemed to stay that way. Something about him at night though. It was nice. He was unafraid. Was it cruel to like this being better than than the Samuel he had he had grown to care for? Raphael tried to shake the thought as Sam jumped into the shot gun seat. Throwing the snacks mercilessly into the back seat before fixing his attention to the radio quickly choosing a station with actual music.

Authors note: Okay guy's so this Sam might not be the one you get to know later cause I am going through a character rewrite. This is also really old.
