Once, there lived a kind and honest man who had accumulated a treasure of gold and diamonds over his lifetime. This treasure was not meant for luxury or pride—it was a gift for his children, a safeguard for their future. He hoped it would help them survive during difficult times and support them even in their old age. He and his children were known in their village for their honesty, generosity, and good character.
One day, the man decided it was time to hide the treasure until the right moment came to reveal it. He chose a quiet corner inside his home and dug deep into the earth. Carefully, he placed a large wooden box containing the gold and diamonds into the pit, then covered it up, making sure no one could tell anything was ever buried there.
But fate had other plans.
Unbeknownst to him, one of his neighbors happened to be standing on his roof that evening and accidentally noticed the man digging. Though he couldn’t see exactly what was inside the box, he guessed it had to be something valuable—perhaps gold or precious gems. Curiosity turned into greed. The thought of treasure consumed the neighbor's mind. He began watching the family carefully, waiting for a chance when the house would be empty so he could sneak in and uncover the hidden wealth.
A week later, the family decided to go on a short one-day trip to a nearby tourist spot. The neighbor saw them leave and wasted no time. As soon as the coast was clear, he jumped into action. He entered the house and began digging in the same corner he had seen the man working in.
After some time, his hands struck something solid. He eagerly pulled out a large box from the soil, his heart racing with excitement. With trembling hands and a wide smile, he opened the box—only to find it filled with nothing but ashes. Shocked and heartbroken, he stared at the cold gray dust. The treasure he had imagined for days was not real. Feeling defeated and confused, he quietly buried the box again exactly as it was and left the house.
Years passed—twenty of them. The man’s children grew up, and the time had come to finally reveal the treasure to them. The father, wanting everything to be legal and fair, hired a lawyer to help divide the treasure among his children.
Ironically, the lawyer turned out to be none other than the same neighbor who had tried to steal the treasure all those years ago. The father recognized him but said nothing. The lawyer, on the other hand, believed that the box still held only ashes. He thought to himself, They are digging for nothing.
As part of the legal process, the lawyer asked the father to retrieve the buried box so it could be officially listed and divided. Together, the family and the lawyer dug into the same spot. Soon, the box was brought out and opened—and to the lawyer’s utter shock, it was completely full of shining gold and glittering diamonds.
He stood speechless.
Turning to the father, the lawyer confessed, “I must tell you the truth. Years ago, I tried to steal this treasure when you were away. But when I opened the box, it only contained ashes. Now I see this wealth was real all along. I don’t understand…”
The father smiled calmly and replied, “God never allows the wealth and success meant for one person to be stolen by another. It was never yours to take.”
Those words struck deep into the lawyer’s heart. For the first time in years, he felt ashamed—but also inspired. From that day forward, he changed his ways. He became an honest, hardworking man, admired by many.
And the treasure, guarded by destiny itself, finally reached the hands it was always meant for.
