Summer break, road trip -

I stop for snacks at a rural station. Noticing an old man, pumping gas, looking harmless, I ignored my own rules. Don’t interact with strangers.

“Where ya headed Casey, he grinned, ya like music?” He must’ve noticed my vanity plate’s, I thought.

Handing me a USB drive, he winks saying, you may find this entertaining, then he drove away.

I couldn’t resist. Grabbing my laptop, I plug it in.

Straining to hear what sounds like the old man, “don’t cry Casey, it’ll be over soon. You really shouldn’t talk to strangers.

“BANG!”

My car backfires.
