Real Dragons Are Better

“For A Day of Fun, The Box Must Be Spun!”

By Holly RaePublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 4 min read

Ava and Ana stared at the mysterious package that had just been delivered to their front door. The twins were still upset from this morning's happenings. They were supposed to be at Adventure Land riding the Dragon Slayer, but as always, a meeting came up that their Dad could not miss and ruined the exciting day that they had planned. Instead, they were stuck at home sitting in their backyard staring at this box wrapped in a brown paper bag.

"So a drone just flew to our front door and dropped off the package?" asked Ava as she gently kicked the box with her foot.

"Well I didn't see anything at first," answered Ana, "I heard someone knocking on the front door and when I opened the door, Stuart was standing there holding the package. He said that he saw a drone fly in and drop this on our front porch."

"And you believed him?" asked Ava with a snarky voice.

"No, I didn't," replied Ana rolling her eyes. "So I watched the doorbell camera and he was not lying. I saw it with my own eyes on the camera."

"What do you think it is, Ana?" asked Ava, starting to feel a little curious.

"I don't know," replied Ana. "It just looks like a regular old box to me."

"Well here goes nothing," exclaimed Ava as she jumped up to open the box.

As she opened the package, they saw a note sitting on top of confetti and glitter.

The note read:

*********

Dear Ava and Ana, I hope you're having a great day! I know you were really looking forward to going to Adventure Land today, so I wanted to send you something to make up for it. I hope this box of fun will put smiles on your faces. Follow the instructions below. I will be over later with some cookies.

Love, Nana

Ava handed the box over to Ana.

"Not me", snapped back Ana.

"Ok, let's do this together," said Ava.

The girls each grabbed a side of the box and began turning in a circle. The girls spun around and around, the glitter and confetti flying into the air. Suddenly, they were surrounded by a magical land, with trees made of candy and pink clouds in the sky. The girls looked at each other in amazement as they stopped spinning.

Suddenly, they heard a voice. It was a fairy, perched atop a candy tree. "Welcome to my realm!" she said cheerfully. "What brings you here?"

“Well our Nana sent us here for a day of fun,” said Ava excitedly.

“Yes,” agreed Ana, "we were supposed to be at our favorite amusement park riding our favorite ride, the Dragon Slayer, but that got canceled.”

“Oh, the Dragon Slayer?” questioned the fairy, ”Do you suppose that is as much fun as riding a real dragon?”

“No!” exclaimed the girls together in an excited voice.

“Well then,” said the fairy “let’s see what I can do”.

Ava and Ana were both scared but excited at the same time. They had never been on a real dragon before. They headed towards a castle that was perched high on the hill. As they approached the castle, they saw a dragon sitting on a bridge over a beautiful pond in front of the castle. The fairy called to the dragon and he flew over. The dragon allowed Ava and Ana to climb on his back and soon they were soaring high into the sky.

The view from up high was breathtaking. They could see all of the different villages and landscapes below them. They even flew over a river that led to a huge waterfall. The day went by too quickly and before they knew it, they were landing back at the castle.

They thanked the dragon for giving them such a wonderful adventure and when they turned around, everything was gone. They were standing in their backyard. They walked towards their patio and sat in the chairs. The package was still sitting on the table unopened like it had never been touched. As they looked at each other with puzzled faces, Nana walked outside with a plate of their favorite cookies.

"Oh, my package made it," says Nana with excitement.

As Nana placed the cookies on the table, she grabbed the package and handed it to Ava.

“Open it up!”

The girls looked at each other as Ava slowly opened the box. They both looked in to see two beautiful dolls with pink dresses laying on beautiful gift wrapping paper.

“I saw these when I was traveling last month and I knew that I just had to get them for you,” Nana said as she hugged the girls.

“We love them, “ said Ava and Ana together as they hugged their Nana back. They were still confused about the package and how the dolls were in there now and not the confetti and glitter from earlier.

Their Dad walked out the door and apologized for the last minute meeting and having to miss the park and their favorite ride Dragon Slayer. The twins looked at each other and smiled.

"Real dragons are better!" they said together.
