William's POV
I paced the length of my office, my father just left. Mina is still sitting in the chair, her leg is propped Up on my desk. Usually I would mind her doing this as it’s unprofessional though after my father‘s words I have more to worry about then a foot being on my desk.
Flashback:
“what do we need to discuss now?” I asked, already getting annoyed. My father sat across from my desk “we will be meeting with the other family, the one you have been searching for. Someone else managed to get their information” my father paused then looked over at Mina before looking back at me. “We will be inviting them to our Christmas ball this year which is also when I will be announcing your miarage to Mina.” my father said, he spoke with such authority that it made my stomach turn, I looked from Mina back to my father my voice growing cold. “I will not be marrying her.” I snapped at my father as I stood up from my desk. My father stood up as well and stared coldly into my eyes, I knew what he was going to do I felt it before so many years ago that it’s now a distant memory though the words will hurt just as much. “You will marry her or I will call the authorities.” My father shot back before turning and making his way out of my office. I wanted to argue, I wanted to fight back. But after what happened to Rachel, I knew, I knew that was no empty threat. I looked over at mina, who was leaning her elbow on the chair head on her fist. She was staring directly out of the window behind me. I let out a sharp sigh and muttered under my breath “I will not marry you.”
present time:
I look over at Mina who has finally moved her leg off of my desk and was now lean8ng forward playing a game on her phone, I pull my own phone out and bring up a picture of Chloe. I felt my heart sink as I stared directly into those beautiful eyes, I turned the screen off and made my way over to Mina. Once over to her I leaned down and watched her until she finally shut her screen off and looked at me. “What?” She asked, annoyance in her voice. “How about we make an offer?” I asked, trying to sound friendly in hopes that she would agree to my offer. It took a second before I watched a small grin form on Mina’s face.
Chloe’s POV
its been two weeks since the dinner with William’s family, I was starting to get used the my phone being quiet again. Mae has been busy with work, and well…We all know why William has yet to reach out to me. I go through the store grabbing winter decorations, I don’t exactly feel like being festive this year but I knew if I didn’t try how would I know if I would ever be in the festive mood again. I walk over to a stand filled with snow globes, I picked up one that had a woman dressed in a beautiful gown dancing with a man wearing an matching suit. I shook it and watched the white glitter fall over the figurines, letting out a sigh I slowly place the snow globe back down on the stand with the other ones. I wanted the snow globe, but it would bring back too many memories that I was not quite ready to remember yet.
As I make my way out of the store I get a ping on my phone, after putting my bags in the car I pull out my phone and read the text over.
Mae: where are you right now?
me: I’m just now leaving the store to head home.
Mae: meet you there.
I get into my car and quickly pull out of the parking lot, making my way home.
