In actuality, the term wire remained a misnomer. It was black, pea sized two microphone powered by a battery the size of a gnat’s wing. Tall K sat comfortably in the back of the truck about a mile away from his tattooist shop.

He let the officers apply the two way device in his inner ear.

“It’s a little annoying.”

“That’s a given. You’ve got a bug in your ear,” Sergeant Hopper said.

“Yeah, and I won’t be able to sleep tonight because I’ll be thinking it’s still in there.”

“Don’t worry. We’ll have it out way before bedtime,” the sergeant reassured.

Kim wheeled around to see him in the unmarked car.

“Get ready for this,” Kim mentioned. “We’re going to be hanging onto every word. If anything goes left, we’ll be there to swoop in and neutralize any threats,” she explained.

“Got it,” Tall K replied.

Yawquisha captured all of this on camera. She was already prepared to blur out figures and modulate voices. She looked down into the screen and then looked up. A burst of confidence sprang forth in her mind like a light flashing bright against the dying sky. She had an idea.

“We can get video in there, too,” she proclaimed.

“You’ve got that kind of equipment?” Kim asked.

“Yes,” Yawquisha replied. She dug in her tool bag and extracted a tiny camera about twice the size of the microphone.

“Two peas worth,” Kim considered the camera between her first finger and thumb.

“Alright, we’ve got to place it inside his hair,” Hopper stated.

“Fine. We’ve got to hurry. Parton will be waiting and you need to open up shop,” Kim reminded him.

“Of course,” Tall K said. He got into his vehicle the color of oxblood and chrome pipes. It was a present to himself after opening multiple locations throughout Delaware.

He drove the distance to his shop and turned on the “OPEN” sign. The first customer was Reyvon Parton. He wore silk black slacks and a goldenrod turtleneck with a platinum and diamond slave chain around his neck.

When he sat down in Tall K’s seat, he held out his inner forearm.

“K, I’m glad to see you out of the joint. I was getting worried, though. He just got in now he was out so fast. What kind of deal did you get?”

“I just told them where they could find more of my drugs. Nobody went down with me and I didn’t run my mouth,” everything was true. His heart quickened a bit.

“Yeah, well it’s great seeing you in freedom.”

Tall K sped up the conversation. “Do you have the outline ready for what you want?”

“Yes, here it is,” Parton displayed a list of songs by his artists on his label that he executive produced.

“Okay. We can do that,” Tall K said. Kim was in his ear.

“Try to get him talking about the murders,” she instructed.

Tall K acknowledged. “It’s a damn shame that all these killings keep happening.”

“I’ve been noticing.”

“It’s time someone steps forward and declares that they’re the culprit. All of the mothers and fathers would be happy.”

“I wouldn’t be, though. Don’t let this out of the shop….” The authorities leaned into the monitor and clutched their headphones even tighter.

“I’m right here,” Tall K declared.

“I put half of those bodies in the dirt. Some of the songs you’re about to etch into my flesh were written by them. They couldn’t hold their side of the deal so I couldn’t see them breathing anymore.”

Kim got on the comm again. “This is it. Keep him talking. We’re on our way.”

“So, this is in honor of the people who are no longer here.”

“No longer here?! I smoked them like herring,” Parton said.

In the unit, they had already gotten what they needed, but that last bit raised eyebrows on the drive over. Yawquisha’s camera rolled.
