QR Code Murders: Devil’s Voice
Yawquisha modulates the voices of her subjects.
Lights around her apartment shone. Yawquisha looked at the camera that snapped the video of the interviews Kim conducted on the street. Like a scientist, she knew exactly how to adjust the footage and the audio. For the latter, she called it the “Devil’s voice.”
In the editing process, she noticed something. One of the interview subjects stated that she was on the opposite side of the street. She couldn’t have been, Yawquisha thought. The suspect ran on the other side of the street and she would’ve had her back to her.
She donned her mask and adjusted her own voice.
“This is serious. The interviews you are about to view are real. I have been on a ride along with a law enforcement professional. Today, I was privileged to encounter the authority that questioned the two interviewees.”
“I’m just going to play the two interviews back to back and see if you catch what I caught in the editing bay.”
She played the “Devil’s voice” and the obscured visuals of the people and surroundings. She then returned to the commentary.
“Did anyone catch that? Chat warriors? Did you notice anything off about any of the videos?”
Messages came in fast on the live video. Close to five thousand people tuned in to better understand the horrific attack on Slum God 5G.
“I see you Fast_Winner. I think you’re the closest to understanding what happened. That chat is going fast, though. But yes, most of you now are showing what I caught.”
“Did you not hear that second witness describe a totally different situation? What was this person thinking? Where are the standards behind people? If we’re going to start snitching, we’re going to need to tell the truth, too. It’s okay to be a witness, you just have to not lie. How about that?”
They are laying down these rappers that intend on making it big. They will see their deaths before they see the big stages. And for what? Because they want to advance their lives and possibly turn a coin? I want you to watch the interviews again when this video is posted. I thank you for your time and as always, Delaware is where it is.”
Yawquisha took off her mask and began the process of uploading the video. Her skills showed as she added the runners and a link to her donation page.
She viewed the donors. She couldn’t thank them all but most of them were in the three figures. When she placed the video on the platform, it immediately received more than five thousand views and grew from there. She fixed her dinner of roast beef, broccoli and rice.
She returned to her computer and the count was at twenty thousand…in less than half an hour. Confidence in her abilities empowered her to continue to ride with Kim. She would stay with her until she kicked her and her camera out of the car. She didn’t want that, though. Yawquisha wanted to always be with Kim. Her shrewd demeanor and directness was not lost on Yawquisha.
That next morning, the first thing Kim did was laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Yawquisha asked.
“Your video. Well, not the video but your ‘Warriors.’ They’re hilarious.”
“Don’t pay any attention to them.”
“You’re at six hundred thousand views, by the way.”
“I know. I check every half hour.”
“And you get paid for all of that?”
“Advertising and donations.”
“I’m in the wrong line of work. Jesus, you do a great job with the….”
“Devil’s voice.”
“Yeah, that. You’re brilliant, kid.”
“Thank you.”
The car sped away from her apartment.
