Planet Tetro ~ Page 63

Practice

By TerrencePublished 3 years ago 3 min read

I set off on my own grinning with excitement . I had an upgraded drill with me and I was going to destroy some trees ! Hunting moving animals would be a better option , but the mess would be unnecessary . Cleaning off all of the fur and blood would be ridiculous . I would also be a huge waste of my time . Plus I prefer to only hunt animals for money or sustenance . Practice would fall into the more desperate situations . Since we have the chief’s grandson Draco with us . I don't think need to feel desperate . He is , after all the second strongest in the village . Greencrest is small but we're no pushovers in a fight . The chief made sure of that . I wonder who us will be tagging alongside us . I guess I’ll find out soon , there wasn’t any mention of it in the letter .

I got to a perfect spot for practicing near the west gate . I was close enough to get there in no time at all . I was also far enough away as to maintain my privacy . I like to treat my first practice trials like science experiments . I want to keep the variables as low as possible . Other people interacting with me would only slow my process as well . I started off smashing small bushes with my drill while moving the drill forwards and backwards . I then proceed to do the same going left and right , and vice versa . Then I moved to the trees practicing specific strikes like circle slashes , slashes in the shapes of z’s , diagonal slashes and vertical strikes . After getting acceptable results I moved on to more difficult strikes . Like imitating the movement of a snake with my drill arm . Moving it like a whip and then striking with my drill like the bite of a snake .

Practice was going along perfect until I heard a couple of big bushes shake . My instincts were alerted instantly . I knew that there was an animal nearby . A few seconds later a bull mole came rushing out at me . ( Bull moles are black animals that are herbivores . They are still aggressive and have the upper body and size of a bull . The only differences would be that they have the lower body and nose similar to that of ground moles . They also don’t have eyes . It was a full size adult male with large horns . The Bull moles track others by smell .

It came running at me and instantly I knew what my challenge was going to be . I dodged the charge and braced my self for the next one . My next goal was going to be to knockout the bull by hitting it’s horns with my drill . That way I wouldn’t have a huge mess to clean up after I was done . I had to make it out of the situation safely as well . Ive taken bulls down before but not with this upgrade . My first point of action was to get the bull mole’s timing down .

He charged at me a second time and I dodged again . This time I dodged the bull barely . Thats not good , he’s picked up his speed that time . No problem I thought , I just have to figure out his top speed . I'll try 3 more dodges, hopefully he loses his patience by then .
