Jane sat in her cluttered kitchen staring at the bill in her hand. Was the quote genuine or was he ripping her off for knowing so little about car engines? She sighed. Who knows.

There wasn’t enough money this month anyway. That she was certain of. Not after her bag was stolen. Something which normally wouldn’t have created much of a problem - only that day she had been returning from a photoshoot and had her entire make up bag inside.

£800 of make up.

She immediately cursed these low paying jobs her agency kept sending her to. Jobs with make up artists who never had make up for her skin tone. Which is something she now had in common with them.

Her head was paining and she threw herself to the mercy of her sofa. Her body felt instantly better curling up around the plush softness she had bought with last month’s pay. Her mind now regretted the elaborate purchase. But how could she have known?

With unbearably loud volume, the television blared in response to her remote control command. Flippin’ peck! This always happened after watching movies the night before. Why the wheckels can the volume not be the same for tv and dvds?

Get the new Evelon eye serum, packed full of pempto-pimpto-peptides for youthful…”.

Jane found the mute button just in time to look up at the television and see her own face smiling back at her. Her heavily made up, airbrushed and filtered face.

Seriously?

Ok, that's a great word, although I don't think I'll have to become too familiar with it. There's not enough makeup in the world. The story is probably close enough to a real scenario to be more important than it appears on the surface. Well done, Kayliegh!

You are engaging, and you definitely are a fantastic writer. Beautiful.

  • There's so much to this story than meets the eye. So deep and thought provoking! You nailed this challenge!

This seems the perfect companion piece to go with the poem you just made 🙂. I enjoyed reading it
