Passing the Test

Microfiction

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Heading into the office, Marie was worried. Had she passed the test? She really needed this or her whole life would come crashing down. “Please let it be so,” she prayed.

“Ah, Marie. Good morning.”

“Good morning Dr. Williams.” Marie wrung her hands. She knew she had cheated and was pretty sure Dr. Williams knew it too. “Please let me pass the test. I’ll never do it again,” she prayed under breath.

“I guess you want to know, huh?” Dr. Williams said. Walking around the desk he picked up a paper from the top of a stack. “Here’s your test Marie.”

Blinking, she looked at the man. “Well, is it good?” she queried.

“You passed. The baby is your husband’s.”

Marie sobbed in relief.
