One Night I Wished Upon A Star
Just to see what would happen from afar
I saw some odd star patterns in the sky and then a shooting star went across the expanse way up high.
Just that quick I made a wish upon that shooting star way up in the night sky so far.
I saw a clump of hearts and they looked like they may burst and the bright sky was just beautiful to behold on this light awesome night.
I had tried this once before and do not remember getting my wish, but then again I do not remember what I wished for. Maybe when I am remembering this wish, I had better write it down or there may be a frown, when the next time comes around as there is bound to be a next time. When living way up north with the sky so full of such bright stars. I will see it again that bright sky, that will lull you back to sleep at night.
I think it is such a delight to watch the stars and moon above while spending time outdoors making it difficult to go in the house and close the doors.
I invited Stephanie along to watch the sky and she was teaching me about the stars. I would listen and then ask her about Mars. Her people believe when we die, we go to the Milky Way. Is that where we stay, I would say. She said, “Jase, I have heard many stories growing up and yet, I can forget them, as I know you can forget your stories if you don't tell them enough. It can be rough with an oral tradition that means it isn't written. There are others that pass on star knowledge as a part of what they do. I have been to one or two of those presentations. Maybe we should go together to one as they are quite the demonstration!”
I was sitting there listening to Stephanie when suddenly, I noticed something that I would probably never see again in my lifetime. It was in a tree near us and with the breeze the tree was blowing back and forth, and it was looking like they may not stay in that tree for long. At first, I saw one very large bear and then there was another and another up there. Three bears in a tree! My thought was how far are they from Stephanie and me? Not far enough I decided. I told Stephanie that it was time for us to move, and she thought I was kidding until she looked in the direction I was motioning in and agreed, and she was off. Walking briskly in the direction of the house.
When we got to the house, we fell on the sofa and started to take big deep breaths in, as we walked back to the house, we must have both been holding our breath. Not a good situation to be in, and it surely could have meant death. What were three bears doing in that tree over there. To this day we have no idea as they disappeared by morning. We will be more careful from now on, I said with a big yawn. Story time is over for tonight and what a delight to not only hear stories of stars but to also see the bear over there. We will see an occasional bear in the neighborhood but never three again anywhere.
I realized my wish had come true and it didn’t take long to figure it out and it was my culture, my life, my lady, our three children, and my clan all together in one night. In my wish I asked to be confident knowing exactly who I am. What I realized this night is that I am grateful I know all of who I am.
