“Do we end up together? In the end?”

“In a certain reality, you may.”

“We may?”

“Life is unpredictable. That’s something everyone forgets. People live and people die and so many things happen in between life and death. There’re multiple different ways your life could go, but I can’t say for certain. You could die in a car crash. Become paralyzed. Your story could end here. Dead in a hospital bed.”

“Could you show me? Those different realities?”

“I could, but I must warn you some will be hard to handle.”

“I need to know...I have to know.”

“As you wish.”

“Why is she crying?”

“In this reality, you two are married, but…”

"She despises me."

“She never left town like she was supposed to. Because of your selfish love for her, she was kept here like a prisoner. She never did anything, just became your wife, even against the wishes of her parents. She doesn’t write anymore, she doesn't laugh, she doesn't do anything. In this reality...she’s allowed herself to forget about me completely.”

"She wouldn't do something like that."

"For you, she would."

“Why am I so...angry?”

“Because she’s unhappy and you’re the reason why she’s unhappy. What's even worse is that you know the exact reason why, but you're jealous, because she'll never feel feel for you what she does for Me.”

“Is it that bad? Where she's crying herself to sleep?”

“You hit her.”

“I’d never do that to her.”

“When you're sober you wouldn’t think twice about it, but when you’ve had a couple of drinks, you’re unpredictable. And in this reality, you drink quite a bit to dull the pain.”

“I’ve seen enough.”

“Have no fear. In this reality, Ariel is happy.”

“She's pregnant. Are we married?”

She’s married.”

“Who is that?"

"Her husband."

"What happened to us?"

“You broke up with her, because she chose Me over you. She cut her losses and waited patiently until someone more suitable for her came along and she allowed herself to fall in love again. Though she never stops wondering where you are and how you’re doing.”

"What happened to me?"'

"I'd rather not say. It's not good."

“There’s gotta be another reality, where it’s her and I and we’re actually happy. Please, tell me there is.”

“There is one in specific. Is it perfect? No, but you two don’t mind at all. People envy you no matter where you two live or what kind of jobs you happen to have.”

“I want to wake up here. In this moment, her and I as husband and wife. Then, life will truly be worth living.”

“But the thing about this reality is that you grew up and became the man that she needed you to be.”

“How do I get back to this? When I wake up?”

“Nothing is set in stone. All of these realities depend on choices you make and things that happen in your life. And how are you so sure that you’re going to wake up? What if I want everything for you to end right here?”

“I would certainly deserve it, for the way I treated You and treated others. But I would beg You to reconsider, give me another chance and I would promise not to waste it.”

“This isn’t the only glimpse in which you’re happy. In some you both find love in different people and you’re just as happy with them as you were with her. In others, neither of you marry and you decide to follow Me. These glimpses that you’ve seen can be rewritten. I could come back before they ever even have a chance to happen. So, in the end it doesn’t really matter, because it all comes full circle, and you’re left standing naked in front of me.”

“Why show me all of this if You’re not going to give me another chance?”

“Because I see that there is love in your heart and where there is love, there is hope.”
