Not All As It Seems
Drabble Drop : Camouflage

Lesley loves hiking through virgin countryside but never imagined the dangers involved.
Sadly, she learned this lesson at another’s expense.
Saturday finds Lesley miles from home, traversing picture-perfect countryside as her muscles stretch in delightful motion. She stands on a cliff looking over the top of the trees below.
As she looks down, she spies a human lying under a tree, motionless and hurries to his side.
Unfortunately, she’s too late, she cannot find a pulse.
Suddenly, movement to his right reveals the culprit responsible for his death. A venomous snake camouflaged among the leaf litter defending its position.

I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘camouflage'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
