New York Heatwave
Unbearable

Anton always knew New York was a place full of energy and fun. However, the urban area was a hot furnace as a relentless heat wave settled over the apartment and the adjacent areas. The sun blazed over everyone and the concrete and asphalt streets. People retreated and sought shelter from the unbearable heat. For Anton, he understood that he could no longer take walks each day, that brought Anton much joy and solace.
Anton adored the outdoors as he walked the lush parks and shady pathways. The sound of leaves, the laughter of people, and the cool breeze were great comforts. But now, the heat made such adventures dangerous. News reports echoed the danger of heatstroke, and ambulances rushed to help those overcome by the extreme heat. The allure of outdoor events or a casual trek to a local café was no longer there as everyone sought refuge from the elevated temperatures.
Cool temperatures at home became the sole escape from the relentless heat. Anton, however, felt bad. He was deeply concerned about the earth’s atmosphere and the consequences of excess energy use. Yes, the apartment offered cooler temperatures, but he understood that the excess energy demands were not good for the planet. As someone who valued the carbon effects of excess energy use, Anton faced a tradeoff between comfort and damage to the earth. As a result, he always carefully adjusted the thermostat to generate enough of a cool breeze and not use too much energy!
New York had four seasons and would eventually get a break from the super-hot weather. The hope of cooler days ahead comforted Anton. Cooler temperatures and pretty colors were just around the corner as autumn approached. Anton longed for the days when he could take long walks and not worry about the abnormally elevated temperatures. New York was usually full of events, but now that was no more, and he felt despondent and let down by the hot weather. Outdoor markets had fewer people, outdoor events were rare, and plans were often canceled. Even the normally crowded subway had fewer passengers as the heat permeated every corner covered by New Yorkers.
Anton employed several methods to stay cool around the apartment. He allowed outdoor breezes to enter when the sun went down and when he woke up each day. He set up fans to create a natural cross breeze to cool the whole apartment. He used only breathable apparel to stay cool and drank as much water as he could to stay hydrated. The heat was a tough opponent, but Anton managed to do whatever he could to stay calm and refreshed throughout the day!
Yes, Anton ventured out when the weather cooled, and the sun’s rays were less harsh. These moments were a welcome break from the apartment’s four walls. He would become depressed as he approached the empty streets and the soft glow of streetlamps. Although the warmth permeated every hour of the day, the absence of the hot sun rays after 6:00 PM each day made some walks bearable. He wandered through some desolated areas that allowed a welcome escape from the ravages of the heat, even though the heat forced Anton to stroll throughout the journey.
Anton hoped that normalcy would someday return after the end of the heat wave, but for now, the ravages of the heat and the relentless sun ruled the day. Although the trees stood tall, they looked weary even as they produced patches of shade. Flowerbeds, tended by gardeners, added splashes of color to the urban landscape. However, nature’s hearty endurance gave Anton hope. He took solace that the heat wave would eventually pass as the season changed to the fall.
Days blurred together, each marked by the tormented heat as the countdown to cooler weather had begun. Anton read lots of books and explored other new adventures to forget about the weather. He always wanted to protect the planet at all costs and put that ahead of any comforts awarded by the greater use of AC.
Cooler Weather
Anton and everyone knew that subtle changes would appear as the calendar moved closer to autumn and cheer everyone up. As that happened, the sun stayed hot, but the sun’s rays became less powerful! The early part of the day brought some coolness as the new summer season was upon us. New York also seemed more hopeful as people could venture out. Many began to walk out of the AC-cooled apartments as they focused on other factors that were not weather-related.
Everyone was glad that the worst heat wave had ended, and New York could now embrace the Fall season joyfully! The days grew shorter but became more relaxed, and the leaves began to transform. Anton felt a renewed sense of hope. He had weathered the torturous heat, that took away the balanced comfort he was accustomed to that generated a more profound love for all the weather seasons of the year.
As the new cool breeze swept through the streets, Anton stepped out of the apartment, ready to embrace the beauty of autumn. The park became a new sanctuary that generated golden leaves and cooler temperatures. New York had enjoyed renewed energy as more people could be seen around the streets.
Anton felt renewed hope as the fall season entered the landscape and washed away the ravages of the heat. Anton understood that challenges come and go, but no one could take away the long-term enjoyment of walks around the park. He was glad that as the heat wave became a memory, he could look forward to cooler weather's new adventures and joys!
Never worry that good days won’t return because when you close your eyes and dream of the future, the future can show up sooner than expected. Anton was now happy to learn that the past struggles he suffered through and overcame would allow everyone to enjoy the new fall season and make the New York adventure even more memorable than ever!
