New Year in Chamary
From childhood Joy to bank duty and firecracker mishaps

New Year in Chamary…
I think people experience New Year differently at different times…
I remember that from my childhood until I was about twenty, New Year was a time of special joy for me… I started to wear my new clothes from around February… I would wear new clothes that I only get once a year and go to my relatives' houses… I would eat sweets… I would be very excited… Today's children are less excited about New Year than we are….
After I started working at the bank, New Year's Eve changed completely... Until then, I had been celebrating New Year's Eve with good food and fun, but in the first year I went to the bank, I had to do New Year's Eve duty... By then, I had become a permanent resident of the Padada Asapuwa or Chamary, so I didn't feel too worried... I had gone home a week earlier and told my mother that I would be working on New Year's Eve. Otherwise, my mother would be upset..
There was no food on New Year's Eve... So I had to prepare in advance... Kumara, Harsha and I bought "extra" things "in harmony" to last for about four days and brought three or five rice with the remaining money.. We had decided to spend the day with rice pudding... We brought the goods to eat at night..
We were not worried about not getting the New Year's Eve auspiciousness.. As usual, we got up in the morning, got dressed and went to work.. There were about twice as many people as usual.. Mr. Dias prepared it himself We ate about ten cubes of the rice that came and prepared for the battle… A stack of coins as big as the Kalutara Bodhi tree arrived at the bank that day… The coins were gone… It was hard to dig five or six acres by evening… On days when a large crowd of people comes like that, cash out usually doesn't go out.. So we quickly balanced the cash and celebrated the New Year to relieve our fatigue and stress…
As usual, the group passed the usual level of gossip, political discussion, global issues discussion, English language expert level and reached the level of pleasant music…
In the meantime, Kumara had a chance to light crackers.. It must have been around two in the morning… The time when our songs were finished and the people below were barely able to fall asleep… No matter how much we said it, it wasn't the Kumara who was listening… No, I'm the Prince.. Why are you lighting firecrackers that are not used in the year? You are not welcome. I am cursing you. I have always said that if you light a firecracker, you will be fine…
The prince took a firecracker and went out straight as if it were a gift… We were sitting at a distance and watching… The prince blew on the firecracker like a dragon and lit one firecracker and threw it, but it did not fly far. The nearby firecracker exploded… The prince cursed the firecracker and it exploded near the warrior… The prince only fired a small shot and was like a furry bear. Here he lit the second firecracker… This time he threw it a little harder. The firecracker hit a branch and exploded while coming back towards the prince… The prince was Tamil He fell to the ground like a beaten up guy in a movie... He kept saying a couple hundred dirty words and waving his arms around... When we went to check, the dog wasn't seriously injured. The skin on his stomach was burned with some fur. His elbow was slightly injured from the fall...
The man got up in shame and came home as if nothing had happened, saying, "The branch is falling on the roof. I need to cut it off tomorrow."

Sounds like fun despite the lack of much to eat at New Year's. Glad there was fun.
Very good work 👏
