Never Argue with Donkeys

A Lesson in Wisdom and Silence

By The Zeb Scholar Published 8 months ago 3 min read

In a deep, vibrant jungle, a simple yet powerful story unfolded—one that holds a timeless life lesson for all of us.

One day, a donkey told a tiger:

“The grass is blue.”

The tiger looked at him, slightly puzzled, and replied:

“No, the grass is green.”

What started as a small disagreement quickly turned into a heated debate. Both animals refused to back down. Finally, they decided to take their argument to the lion—the King of the Jungle—hoping he would settle the matter once and for all.

Even before they reached the lion’s throne, the donkey began shouting:

“Your Highness! Isn’t it true that the grass is blue?”

The lion, calm and wise, replied:

“Yes, the grass is blue.”

The donkey jumped with joy. He pointed to the tiger and said:

“See! The tiger disagrees with me. He annoys me, contradicts me, and argues for no reason. Please punish him!”

To everyone’s surprise, the lion nodded and said:

“The tiger will be punished with five years of silence.”

The donkey walked away proudly, chanting again and again:

“The grass is blue! The grass is blue!”

But the Tiger Was Confused…

Though the tiger accepted his punishment without resistance, he couldn’t hide his confusion. He turned to the lion and asked:

“Your Majesty, why did you punish me? You know that the grass is actually green.”

The lion smiled gently and answered:

“Yes, of course. The grass is green.”

The tiger frowned and asked again:

“Then why did you punish me if I was right?”

The lion responded with wisdom:

“The punishment has nothing to do with the color of the grass.

You are brave and intelligent, and yet you wasted time arguing with a foolish donkey.

Even worse, you brought that nonsense before me, the King of the Jungle.”

💡 Moral of the Story:

The lion wasn’t concerned about who was right or wrong. What mattered was the waste of time and energy in arguing with someone who would never accept the truth—no matter how obvious it was.

Too often in life, we get caught in arguments with people who are not open to understanding, who refuse to listen, and whose only goal is to prove themselves right, even when they are completely wrong.

Instead of walking away, we try to convince them, reason with them, or defend the truth—and in doing so, we drain our own energy and lose our peace.

🧠 Key Takeaways:

Don’t argue with people who refuse to accept facts.

Not everyone is ready to understand the truth. Some argue just to feel superior.

Value your time and energy.

You don't need to prove yourself to everyone, especially not to those who argue for attention or ego.

Silence is powerful.

Sometimes, the most intelligent response is no response at all.

Choose peace over being right.

Not every fight is worth fighting. Your peace is far more valuable than being "right" in a pointless argument.

🔥 Final Thoughts:

In this noisy world, where people shout louder to be heard, remember this:

“When ignorance screams, intelligence stays silent.”

There will always be people who:

Twist facts

Reject logic

Argue blindly

Don’t waste your time proving anything to them. It’s not your job to fix every misunderstanding. Sometimes, the wisest thing you can do is to walk away with peace and dignity.

So, the next time someone tells you “the grass is blue,” just smile, step back, and save your energy for what truly matters. 🌱💚
