My Watch Is Broken
Now how will I tell the time?
I was with a small group of reiki practitioners at the hospital in town, sending reiki to all of the people in the hospital. I was told the hospital was full of patients and the staff were overwhelmed and needed help. It was such a great idea and I just had to go. I could imagine how powerful that could be, knowing how just a small reiki circle can do so much for just a few.
As I drove to the hospital I was thinking of how I first started reiki. A therapist I was going to asked if I may want to try reiki. Energy work he said. Some nurses do something similar. It is called healing touch. He told me that his practice was talk therapy when he started out at the clinic. Then it was some reiki, then mostly reiki and for some it became a 50 minute reiki session without any talk. I tried reiki and I was sold. That was back in 1990.
In 1994, I learned to give reiki to myself and some family and friends. In 1995, I learned to send reiki, and in 1998 I learned to teach reiki. I have taught about two hundred people to give reiki since that time. It has been good for me and hopefully they use it as it will be good for them too. And if they don't use it, that is okay. It won't hurt anything.
When standing with the group and sending reiki, I noticed the people in front of me had watches on. What? I thought most everyone used their cell phones to tell time. Then as I looked closer, I could see that some of those watches appeared to be more than just a time piece. I am out of date, in other words old. It is 2024, and I still have a flip phone, that I take with me for phone calls when I am out and about. And I use my smart phone at home on Wi-Fi. Then if my watch hadn't broken, I would be wearing that too. Old style, 10.99 on special.
As kids growing up we used to look at the place the sun was in the sky to get an idea of what time it was. Then we would use our hands to make a clock and have a good guess at the time. I have worn a watch for so long that I will probably always wear one. I may stop at the Walmart on my way home and buy a 10.99 watch.
After a half hour or so, our group has attracted others to our cause. The people from the church across the street from the hospital are with us now and all with their hands raised. Cars have stopped on their drive and have joined in, all with raised hands. My hands have heated up, which means there are some very sick people in the hospital. Because I am old I find a spot to sit and I use some symbols I was taught to send the reiki to people in the hospital and I also send to the people who are sending the reiki with me.
I look up to see we have made the news. Reporters and camera's are making the rounds to see what is going on. From this there are many more people joining us. We are told about certain people that are ill in the hospital. We are given names of those to send reiki and prayers to. I lose track of time. My wife will be missing me, so it is time for me to go home. Maybe I don't really need a watch to tell the time!
