My Bloody Valentine

Love is a deadly weapon

By Linda FriesenPublished 4 years ago 5 min read

"When I tell you to, open your eyes, okay?" There was a moment were it was completely silent and shuffling could be heard. "Emilia you can open them." Just as a girl had opened her eyes, lights flickered on and sound filled the air.

"Jack...An amusement park?" Emilia questioned with a giggle.

"You told me that you wanted to be amused this year." Emilia smiled and lightly shoved his arm.

"I love it."

"Jack, this is the most romantic night I've ever had." Jack glanced over, his eyes softening as the landed on his date.

"Oh, Emilia. I wish we could stay here forever." He said, but unfortunately the car ride they were on had stopped and it was time for them to get out.

"Where did you find this place?" Jack looked around all the flickering light, glowing in the night sky.

"My cousin recommended it." He answered and slipped his hand into hers.

"Let go on the Ferris wheel!" Emilia dragged Jack to the big wheel sitting in the center of the amusement park. The line was short which pleased Jack. Nothing was worse then having to wait forty five minutes in line for a two minute ride.

The operator yanked down the bar over their laps and pressed a button. The ride started to move backwards before stopping to let the next couple on.

Jack leaned back with his arms resting on the back of the seat. He looked up as they started moving higher in the sky and took a breath in. Emilia pressed into his side and he wrapped an arm around the girl he loved. She was his everything. Emilia was his everything. Jack's own mother didn't believe that any girl could make him truly happy but he had found her.

"What are you thinking about?" Emilia had asked. Jack looked down to see her peering up at him with her soft brown eyes.

"You and me. And how were gonna spend the rest of our lives together." He responded and kissed her. Hard.

"Best valentines day ever." She whispered when they pulled apart.

Their seat gave a hard jerk and Emilia gripped the safety bar. Her eyes widened with fear as a loud whining noise filled the air.

"What was that?" Emilia asked, panic lacing her voice. She looked at Jack as their seat shifted down.

"Everything will be okay." But his words got lost in the night as a loud pop echoed around them. Metal scraped against metal as a bolt popped out and hit Jack on the head. The metal seat started to bend against the holding rod and dropped down again.

"Emilia grab on..." Before Jack could finish his sentence the seat had detached and one end fell. Emilia looked at Jack as she dropped with the seat. She stretched out her hand but it was too late. She started falling before she could grab onto him and she screamed.

"Emilia!" Jack yelled trying to grab her but it was too late. A loud bang sounded as her body hit the metal bars below them until she crashed to the ground.

Jack stared down at her as blood started surrounding her body. Someone on the ground had screamed and security rushed to the ride.

"No!" Jack screamed frozen in place, holding on to the bar with one hand and the other out stretched towards the ground. Tears ran down his face as the ride slowly made him lower to the ground. His eyes pinned to Emilia's the entire time.

A police man had to pry Jack's hands off the metal seat and lift him out. Once his feet had hit the ground, only then did his mind register what had happened.

Jack had screamed and cried as he tried fighting his way out of the man's grip so he could get to his love, his eyes never leaving hers. Emilia's body, now covered in blood, laid lifeless on the hard ground. Paramedics surrounded her to check her vitals but her empty eyes gave them all the answered that was needed.

Jack had lost the love of his life.

*Two years later*

Jack's alarm went off from his bed side table. He glanced over and saw the picture he had taken of Emilia; from the night before they had got on that wretched Ferris wheel. He kissed his fingers and placed it over her chest.

He took a deep breath and pushed himself out of bed to start the day.

"Cleo I'm here, let me in." Jack said into a box. A female voice crackled words back and a loud buzz sounded. The door popped open and Jack stepped inside.

Cleo was running around her apartment throwing a scarf around her neck. Jack pulled out his phone checking a text while he waited for her to get ready.

"So i was thinking after dinner we could walk along the boardwalk." Jack hummed a response and shoved his phone back in his pocket.

"Then after we can grab some ice cream and maybe ride the new Ferris wheel they put up." Jack stood frozen in Cleo's kitchen her last words ringing inside his head. He closed his eyes and he saw the moment Emilia fell to the ground, the tears down his face, the blood.

"Jack?" Cleo called out. She was standing on the other side of the island in the kitchen. "What are you doing?" Jack followed her gaze to his hands. A knife gripped in his hand, shaking.

"I don't know." He replied. Cleo looked worried as she pulled on her gloves.

"Alright. Well, did you want to go to the Ferris wheel?" Cleo asked. Jack let out a sigh and tapped the knife against the counter.

"Now why did you have to go and say that?" Jack asked. He walked closer to Cleo tapping the knife on the counter as he moved.

"Jack what are you doing?" He lunged for her and she screamed. "Jack this isn't funny. Stop it." Jack swiped the knife in the air making Cleo scream again. She tripped over a shoe and fell backwards. Her hair flew in her face, her brown curls bouncing around. Jack lunged forwards staring at the brown hair.

"Emilia." Jack whispered as a tear rolled down his cheek. Cleo swung her arm out and the knife fell out of Jack's hand.

"Jack get off!" Cleo yelled as Jack shoved her to the floor. He wrapped his fingers around her neck and squeezed.

"Your not Emilia. You will never be her." Jack yelled. Tears rolled down Cleo's face as she tried to get Jack to let go. Cleo struggled against him, kicking her legs and pushing at his chest. Jack squeezed tighter until Cleo's body went limp underneath his.

Jack let out the breath of air he was holding and slowly got to his feet. He looked around the room and grabbed his keys from the counter. He locked the door behind him and walked off into the night.
