Musing of The Martian.

Having travelled back from Mars I cannot but compare my world to yours. As I have said so many times, you are how we once were and I had hoped you would change during my time away from your planet.

However, I see no change, nothing, you speak much, but do little and that is sad! We were once like you a warring people, a greedy, materialistic race. We destroyed our world Mars much like you're doing on Earth now. We realized as our atmosphere became thinner, our land became more toxic, due to our activities, we could not carry on this way. If we had, it would have meant the end of our civilization and every other living species on Mars.

We turned a corner, we had to live deep underground beneath our planet. Vast chambers were dug out in the interior of our world, where we could start again. Some of us went into suspended animation or stasis. Some of us chose to continue living our lives as we had on the surface. For generations, we have chosen to live more spiritually, more environmentally, and more sustainably. We created a new world where we valued individuals and communities more than the former consumerist civilization we had. We created whole biospheres where our Martian fauna and flora could once more thrive.

Life started on Mars before your Earth, we rose quickly but we fell quickly too. We were never mindful of the Creator's natural law that the planet Mars or a second Eden as you call it was never adhered to. Hence our civilization of greed and hate, where one was judged on what one owned. Where other species were abused for food or sport. Our fall was a long way down and it cost our species much. Fortunately, we changed and now live happier, balanced lives.

You humans are making the same mistake where you put profit before peace and wealth before health. We are very much similar to you humans in many ways. This is why we care about you and your planet. We have been monitoring you for more years than I care to remember. After visiting my family on Mars, and when I returned to Earth to take up my life again I would see change - but no!

Your leaders make a good talk at all these conferences. But no, there is little change in your behaviour. God gave you a paradise planet and you have turned into a hellhole for want of a better word. Some of you know you must change and some of you are, however, not all things are being thought through. You could start with a shorter working week and UBI. Your governments treat your people like serfs as do your companies. Your billionaires talk of leaving the planet and colonising other worlds. Well, let me tell you, the people in your world will not be going anywhere off the planet. It will be for the rich and so-called famous. However, should they attempt to come to Mars, they will not make it, that is all I am saying.

We could and should intervene to make you people realize you cannot carry on like this. But then I ask myself, as a Martain agent living on Earth, should we? I feel very conflicted over this. Many of my brethren on this Earth (agents) and back on Mars feel we should, and others that we shouldn't.

Therefore, we will continue to monitor you and make small changes you will be unaware of. The craft you see in your sky more and more is ours. We have stopped your nuclear weapons from working, we have done many things you would not understand. All this to show you, what we could do if we chose, but I hope you will change, but time is running out dear Earth dwellers.
