Mugly

Mugly (adjective) - 1. a blend of mean and ugly.

By Mother CombsPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Sarah and Jenna were waiting in line at the local grocery store when they heard the commotion ahead of them. A lady at the register was upset that the new computer system rejected her coupons because they were expired. The poor cashier was being called such awful names and told she was illiterate by this bully of a woman. The cashier almost cried when the woman demanded to speak to the manager.

“I have had enough of this,” Sarah told Jenna.

“I have, too; that bitch is just plain mugly,” Jenna responded.

Sarah and Jenna both marched up to the register. They smiled gently at the cashier, who gave them a watery smile. Then, they both turned toward the Karen.

“Excuse me, we could not help but overhear you, and we like to ask you to leave on behalf of all the other customers in this fine establishment,” Sarah interrupted the mugly woman in the middle of her latest complaint about the store’s staffing choice.

As the woman turned to look at Jenna and Sarah, Jenna added, “No one here has any problems with the wonderful staff, but we all have a problem with the mugly way you are handling the situation. We would be extremely grateful if you could just pay for your stuff and leave.”

As the woman marched off angrily, the rest of the customers applauded the two girls.

I am adding this word to my personal vocabulary - fantastic! I wish I had people like this to save me when I was an 18 year old checkout attendant!

I love this. Treating others with disrespect can make anyone ugly. "Mugly" is a perfect word for it. Well done!

Yes, mugly makes sense and we've all come across people like that. Good on the two in the story that stood up to her and defended the cashier! Great entry, Sharon!

  • Ugh, I've seen so many mugly people before. Loved your story!
