Love Under the Bed

A surprising twist in a marriage

By Emmanuel OjenikePublished about a year ago 3 min read

Sarah had been feeling unappreciated and ignored by her husband, John, for quite some time. She felt like she was just an afterthought in his life, and it was taking a toll on her self-esteem. One day, she decided to take matters into her own hands and test John's love for her.

She sat down at the kitchen table, took a deep breath, and began to write a letter to John. She poured her heart out onto the page, telling him that she was tired of him and didn't want to live with him anymore. She wrote that she felt unloved and unwanted, and that she needed someone who would appreciate her.

Once she finished writing, Sarah placed the letter on the table in the bedroom and then hid under the bed. She waited anxiously for John to come home from work, wondering how he would react to her letter.

When John walked into the bedroom, he saw the letter on the table and read it. At first, Sarah thought she saw a look of shock and sadness on his face. But then, something unexpected happened. John began to smile, and then he started to sing and dance. He changed his clothes, picked up his phone, and dialed a number.

Sarah's heart sank as she listened to John's conversation. He was talking to another woman, calling her "babe" and telling her that he would join her shortly. Sarah felt like she had been punched in the gut. She had suspected that John might be cheating on her, but to hear it with her own ears was devastating.

As John walked out of the room, Sarah couldn't take it anymore. She crawled out from under the bed, tears streaming down her face. She felt like her whole world had been turned upside down. She walked over to the table and picked up the letter, wanting to see if John had written anything back to her.

But as she read his response, her tears began to dry. John had written, "I could see your feet under the bed, I didn't make any phone call, I am just going to buy bread. Stop your silly games, stand up, and prepare me a meal...I LOVE YOU SO MUCH and would always do."

Sarah felt a mix of emotions: relief, embarrassment, and love. She realized that John had known she was hiding under the bed all along. He had played along, pretending to cheat on her, just to teach her a lesson. She felt silly for doubting him and for trying to test his love.

Just then, John walked back into the room, holding a loaf of bread and smiling. "Hey, my love. I see you're out from under the bed. How about that meal you owe me?"

Sarah smiled, feeling a bit embarrassed but also grateful for her husband's love and sense of humor. "I'm sorry, John. I was feeling unappreciated and wanted to see how you would react."

John put down the bread and took Sarah in his arms. "I know, my love. And I'm sorry if I haven't been showing you enough appreciation lately. But I want you to know that I love you more than anything, and I would never cheat on you. Let's promise to always communicate and never play games like this again."

Sarah nodded, feeling happy and relieved. "I promise, John. I love you too."

As they hugged, Sarah realized that their marriage was stronger than she had thought. John had passed her test with flying colors, showing her that he loved her and would always be honest with her. From now on, Sarah vowed to communicate her feelings to John, rather than trying to test him. And John promised to always be aware of her needs and to show her the appreciation she deserved.
