Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. As a kid, I never quite knew what was meant by that statement. I always wondered, why can’t anyone hear you scream?

It wasn’t till I was much older and learned that space is a vacuum, and since sound doesn’t travel in a vacuum, the statement finally made sense. Of course, that also means there is no air in space to breathe, which makes space travel really scary, since you can essentially suffocate in the vacuum of space. When I first joined the international space enforcement team (ISE team for short), that was all I could think about, that I would die a horrible death in the absence of air in space. Of course, when I first joined ISE, I probably would have relished the idea. You see, the whole reason I joined was because someone had broken my heart, and I guess I was running away. So to die in space, at that time, seemed a perfect solution. But once I joined, I smartened up, but by that time it was a little too late to back out. So here I am, fighting the good fight (I guess) and protecting the galaxy from…um stray asteroids?

Yup, that is what we have been doing for the past six months, clearing asteroid fields, just like that old 20th century game from Atari (but in this game, there is no extra lives). I wonder what that girl on the internet, who toyed with my heart and lied about her true feelings, would think of me now? Ha! Probably laughing her ass off. I was just a distraction and free entertainment to her I guess. But I digress, so the real reason we are out here clearing these asteroids is so our big heavy transport ships can safely pass through this area of space. You see, our big sports, as we call them, are big bulky SLOW ships. They would never be able to navigate this area without the asteroids being removed first, so here we are shooting the asteroid field to dust!

So why are we out here in the middle of space, destroying asteroid fields and escorting sports? I am so glad you asked. The human race has pretty much ravaged and laid waste mother earth. We have mined, strip mined and pretty much did everything we can to take every last resource mother earth had. I wonder how disappointed the Lord almighty will be when we get to heaven and he sees how bad a job we did with earth?

So anyways, man, in his infinite wisdom decides to travel the stars and despoil other planets for their resources. A lot of times this bothers me, but then I think, it’s just a job and I am getting paid well. So, here I am, blasting asteroids. Because, why not? I remember as a kid, watching old movies about space and thinking how cool and different it would be to be out there. Guess what? It’s not, it’s just a job, except in space. Only difference. You would think, wow we discovered unknown civilizations or some new race or species like the old stories about Roswell and Area 51? Nope, nothing but empty planets and vast space. I mean, I haven’t personally seen or heard any, and none of my friends in ISE have told me about any encounters. But even in this day and age, the powers that be are still real good at hiding those things from the common person.

But now that I think of it, maybe that’s why we are out here near one of Jupiter’s many moons? People always talk about the big four: Io, Europa,Ganymede and callisto. But nothing has really come to light from them. So much of space is empty, It makes me wonder why the Good Lord would but all this out here and not populate it? Did he do all this just so man could have a pretty view at night? There I go, digressing again. So, we are out here because on one of jupiter’s many moon, named Leda, something very interesting was found. Life giving water, on an otherwise empty planet. It is strange, with all of the celestial bodies in the universe, only a handful have been found to be able to sustain life similar to earth. Or maybe not so strange? Who says that life can only exist under conditions such as earth? I mean, even on earth we have found life in the most deepest and inhospitable places.

Getting back to Leda, initial probes found traces of water and an atmosphere comparable to earth. Is it possible that we have found another planet in the vastness of space that we can actually explore without fear of dying in the vacuum of space? Stranger still, initial expeditions sent out claim they discovered structures similar to the Pyramids in Egypt on earth? Is it possible, that a culture existed parallel to our own ancient Egypt? Or even more crazy of an idea, did our ancient civilization of Egypt come from space travelers from Leda? It boggles the mind, could our galaxy not be so big after all?

Perhaps I will discover this for myself soon? I have been selected to lead the next expedition to Leda to continue explorations on the planet. I am really excited for the change, I look forward to breathing Real air, not what we artificially create in space. Well, first I need to finish this exciting mission of breaking up asteroids, boy I can’t wait to stop doing that. And now I am hungry, is it lunch time?
