Locked in The Algorithms
A hacker gets himself into a mess that he cannot escape.

Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. No one can hear me locked inside this virtual reality prison either. Im stuck in this loop of repeat and it continues on and on...If you ever thought that earth was a prison, just try out the virtual. No escape, no sleep, no life. In my opinion, this is the kind of stuff Lovecraft would have made into a best selling novel. I never was a big fan of cosmic horror, too much real world stuff is enough to scare the crap out of you. Now that I've experienced the virtual, i know the abyss. First, I must tell you, that I am not a criminal. I don't deserve to be in this fake hell stored away in some super computer. This place inside a world, within a world, it is absolutely a nightmare that I can't wake up from. I dread the fact that I can't sleep in this reality. I miss my dreams. At least I would have some form of escape, but not here. This place, this reality of the algorithms prison, you cannot dream.
Back when the prisons became full to capacity, some genius decided it would be a great idea to upload prisoners consciousness into a virtual reality prison. There, the prisoners would carry out their sentences or if their body happened to age and slowly rot and die, their consciousness would just fade out of the virtual world. It's pretty freaky to see this happen. This old guy, I think his name was Bill, was standing there one minute chatting with some other prisoners and then he started to glitch. That look in his eyes was terrifying. I am pretty sure he was in pain by the look of desperation and agony in his eyes. Then just like that, poof, he was glitches and ticks one minute then gone.
Anyways, the prisoners bodies would be kept back in" the real", that's what me and the gang call the real world. In a storage facility, someplace no one was allowed to go, all prisoners bodies were stacked one by one on a bed all the way to the roof on the facility. Guards would have to use a machine that would find a prisoner in all the rows and lift them down to be thawed. Yup, all frozen. Place was kept cold as winters day in Alaska. When they were thawed out, electrodes and some other thingy would be strapped to their head and the download of their concious would take place. I always wondered, what would happen if they downloaded the wrong consciousness into the wrong body? They assured the public that this was impossible with their strategies and safety protocol. They forgot that mistakes happen because that is exactly what happened to me.
Yes, I shouldn't have been hacking into the prisoner system. I did it for good reasons though, you gotta believe me. My brother Tommy was set up to be put here and I knew he just wasn't going to be fit for a place like this. I've always taken care of Tommy and I'm his big brother, I had to do what a big brother would do. I ended up hacking into the system and somehow I got caught. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. Those damn AI police little bugger robots come banging at my door at 2 am. Have me in handcuffs and off to the freezing facility in less than an hour.
When I got to the freezing facility, I fought against this man in a lab coat. No trial, no rule of law, no nothing. He smiled as he put the electrodes on my head. Then I was in a different space. My body felt like air. I actually had no body. I was nothing but thought. I no longer existed in any firm but a thought. I couldn't even think myself a body. I was in a space or dimension not meant for humans. A voice came to me and it said,
"Welcome prisoner, You are now to be referred to as Prisoner 11110. This is your new home where your consciousness will remain until you serve your sentence. You will not sleep, you will not eat, you will not be allowed any form of stimulation, you will only pay your debt to society."
If I would have had a body I know that a huge lump would have been forming in the back of my throat. The anxiety I could still feel. My thoughts were racing so fast. When did this end? The voice came to me again,
"It looks like there is no end to your sentence. You should not have attempted to mess with the system. This will be your new forever home.", the voice said.
My thoughts were a mess. I didn't want this to be my existence, I wanted to start to cry, but then the voice said something else, "Prisoner there is no point in this suffering, in virtual prison no one can hear you scream."
