Lily with the white, bright wings.

A fairy fable

By Germaine MooneyPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Lily. She was a curious and adventurous girl who loved to explore the world around her. One day, while wandering through a forest, she stumbled upon a magical tree. She reached out to touch it and suddenly, her arms began to grow and stretch until they transformed into beautiful, majestic wings. White as snow and soft as down, so so beautiful to behold.

Lily was amazed and excited by her newfound ability to fly. She soared high in the sky, feeling the wind rush through her feathers and the warmth of the sun on her face. She flew over mountains, oceans, and cities, seeing the world from a perspective that she had never experienced before.

As she flew higher and higher, Lily became more and more proud of her wings. She felt invincible and superior to everyone else on the ground. She would show off her wings to anyone who would listen, boasting about her ability to fly and see the world from above. She was far better than those who could not fly, she saw their lives as pitiful in comparison to her own.

Lily felt invincible.

But one day, as she was flying over a dark and mysterious forest a terrible storm caught her up. The wind slammed into her and drove her of course. Losing control she crashed into one of the trees. There was a terrible snap, a sharp

Stab of pain and she knew one of her wings had broken. With difficulty, she managed to land upon a tree, and there she sat nursing her wing and crying softly to herself. What would she do, she was stuck, trapped in the tree with no one to help and nothing to eat. She might die here.

Just of despair threatened to take her she heard a soft hooting sound. She looked around and saw a wise old owl perched on a branch nearby. The owl looked at her with a stern expression and said, "Lily, you may have wings, but as you are learning, that does not make you better than anyone else. Remember that humility is a virtue that is much more valuable than any physical ability. Look what your pride has bought you.”

Lily was taken aback by the owl's words. She had never considered the idea of humility before. She curled up on the branch next to the owl and asked, "What do you mean, wise owl? How can I be humble?"

The owl replied, "Humility means recognizing that you are not the center of the universe. It means showing respect and kindness to others, even if they do not have the same abilities as you. It means being grateful for the gifts that you have been given and using them to help others, rather than just for your own pleasure." With that the owl disappeared. Lily sat sadly, nursing her wing, not knowing what to do. Abandoned and friendless she began to regret her prideful ways. Then, with a soft flutter the owl was a back. In his beak he carried bandages, and with great care and attention he used branches to help splint lily’s broken wing. The owl took care of Lily until finally, she was able to fly again, and on that day, the two of them soared into the sky side-by-side.

Lily had had time to carefully consider the owl's words and realized that she had been too proud of her wings.

From that day on, Lily flew with a new sense of purpose. She used her wings to help others, whether it was by rescuing animals in danger or helping people who were lost. She never forgot the lesson that the wise owl had taught her and remained humble and grateful for her amazing gift.

And so, Lily continued to fly high in the clouds, the owl always at her side, seeing all the world from above, but now with a newfound sense of humility and respect for others.
